I feel like something similar is moving into PNC as well. Hard to get too excited about either of these tbh.
Edit: was referring to the showroom space if it’s ground floor.

i’m with you there, doesn’t really seem like something that would attract random passers-by. But hey, better than Bloc 83 retail spaces sitting empty for who knows how long
Maybe they will have swedish meatballs
Office Revolution is what’s going into PNC
I’d be actually really interested lol!
I was wondering the same thing…at first I thought the showroom would be upstairs with their office space, but after rereading the article, I’m not too sure. If it does end up taking some of the retail space on the ground level, I’ll be kind of disappointed tbh. But hey something’s better than nothing (that’s my new catchphrase for DTR apparently )
We lost kimbrells? and now we have two new temporary furniture stores… yay so great, not.
You don’t use office chairs for your living room furniture?
Does seem both these groups are clearly betting heavily on a return to the office.
FYI, the two Bloc 83 buildings are being marketed for sale through JLL.
This is conjecture, but if Heritage Properties gets a good price, they may recycle capital and start the next phase.
They’re apparently trying to encompass a broad area of the market, here’s another quote from the article:
“We wanted to not only attract and retain talent for our organization but we also wanted to be in the prime hub of downtown Raleigh where there’s a lot of development going on,” said Nicole Kalafut, Interior Elements executive vice president for North Carolina. “We also entertain and host clientele so being centralized was the perfect fit for us.”
Interior Elements, which mainly works with design firms and general contractors, grew its staff and profits 40 percent in 2020 by diversifying its portfolio, Kalafut said.
“We had a diverse portfolio in terms of the vertical market that we align ourselves with in each sector; we focus on corporate, high-rise, K-12 and health care [projects] but we aren’t limited to those,” she said.
Just interested, do you have a source for the marketing/sale offering with JLL?
I received an email from JLL’s capital markets division saying the properties are coming soon.
Thanks! I appreciate it
I know I probably missed it, but what’s the next phase? Scoured their website but just see the 2 buildings and the hotel.
Phase 3 is the current Moonlight Pizza/CalaVera 1-story brick building on the corner of Boyland and Morgan, and the small brick building immediately next to the Origin Hotel parking deck. This corner was rezoned to 20 stories, and the Bloc 83 developers have confirmed an 18-story office tower … with another built-in parking deck, believe it or not
Work is starting to be done at the old Taylor’s Capital Service/gas station, across from Bloc83. They’re currently excavating inside of the building.
Isn’t there supposed to be some restaurant going in here, it’s been a while since I’ve heard anything about this.
Nice! Yeah last I saw/heard, it was supposed to be a restaurant open late (may have changed), with a lot of outdoor seating and plants/trees, keeping the current building kind of like the original Dram & Draught. Who knows if that’s all still the plan, but anything would be an improvement over an abandoned gas station!
Hoping they keep the actual gas station cover thingy. Could see them updating it and making for a cool shaded outdoor seating area!
Would hate to see it go but I’m not sure Char-grill will be able to hang on much longer. They are surrounded and their taxes are about to be thru the roof.
Agreed. Spots like GRUB in Durham and Campus Gas in Winston-Salem did this well. Gives it kind of a retro vibe. As much as I loved seeing Bloc83 go up, I hated seeing Dram & Draught get moved from that old gas station. It was such a unique spot, and the new location just doesn’t have the same feel to it.
