Bring MLB To Raleigh

Like I said, there is a LOT happening behind the scenes and it has been going on for months now. Every aspect of this thing has been thought about and the people that make this type of stuff happen are all involved. Every person you think should be contacted or brought into the fold, is already involved. Every angle, be it money, location, ownership group, or community outreach, has been dug into and thought out.

The goal now is to beat out Nashville, who is the only true East Coast competitor.

Omg Rob Manfred approved the bid, once this news gets out to the nation we’re on the map. We actually have a super-duper chance I hope we do not fuck this up. And I hope it’s not on state property I hope they choose it safe with downtown south, but I believe you.

You can play around with this, but really regardless of what size circle you make around whichever part of Raleigh, we are bigger than Nashville. And we are growing faster.

HUGE news. Can’t wait to hear more.

Also I was looking at tv market size. I didn’t realize the Triangle DMA was bigger than St. Louis, Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, San Diego, Baltimore, Cincinnati, and Las Vegas.

While I’ve never watched MLB and likely wouldn’t even with a team in Raleigh, I can’t help but think a stadium would look great at the site of the Wake County General Service Center. I agree with others however, a neighboring stadium to PNC is most likely.

Also, I would like to hear just how much taxpayers would be depended on for such a stadium. There are far better uses for that sum of money, which would likely easily push into ten figures.

Going to take more than just his checkbook. Hopefully he has assembled the right group.

If the development around PNC is done correctly, which is something Dundon has a vested interest in, a baseball stadium there could make a lot of sense. The Raleigh Sports Complex would be a draw for a lot of events.

Is the City/County all in and prepared to fund this stadium?

Yeah I don’t know what some of the folks in here are smoking thinking he’d put an MLB stadium anywhere else besides the PNC Arena area… which is his, like, whole thing lmaooooo

All seriousness, PNC Arena (Carolina Hurricanes + NC State Basketball), Carter-Finley (NC State Football), and [unnamed/unannounced MLB stadium] (RALEIGH ________s, please) would be a lot like Philly’s pro-sports wasteland- I mean complex, where they have their arena, Football stadium, and MLB stadium surrounded by an OCEAN of parking. At least the plan here seems to be more development focused going forward rather than surface parking.

If the city is willing to give him a vested interest in the other areas, it might make sense. PNC is the logical choice for Tepper, but he’s going to have a lot of other vested parties he’ll want to make happy (City of Raleigh, other Billionaires, etc.)

Yea seems like the arena district would make the most sense for the most bang for his buck on development. No idea how important it is but could the horse complex across Trinity be moved somewhere else and open up that 145 acres for a MLB stadium and even more development? Gets kinda close to the rail line going out Hillsborough too.

Good luck prying that land away from Troxlers clutches

Moving the horse complex would be a big big deal - but I am sure it could be done if an appropriate site was found and the money was available. As I recall though, this is a really nice facility and a fantastic location.

Looking at the map @mike posted, do y’all really think av baseball stadium could go out here? To my untrained eye, I just don’t see the space. I also really don’t know about putting yet another stadium in such an car dependent, mass transit desert. Even with the “battery” type development, this area is never going to be walkable. Even KC is moving baseball downtown!! But in the end, I will be thrilled to get a team wherever they go. Just please, not here. Or out on 540. Or in Cary. Or Wendell. or - well, you get the drift.

Is the Cary Towne Center site big enough for MLB? I’m sure Epic Games would love to get out of that situation. Not saying that’s my preferred choice.

I hope you are someplace that lightening can’t strike you right now my friend.
You are right, Epic would probably love to unload that property right now, but there are somethings that you think but never verbalized.

The Cary Cul-de-sacs?

Hahaha, sorry. Another reason I brought that in is because Tim Sweeney could very much be involved here, but I’ll shut up now.

Yea I figured as much. I just don’t see how a baseball stadium fits around the arena plus all the development that is planned.

I’d be thankful for whatever they put it.
