Guys, was wondering if anyone had advise for finding an investor for a really exciting startup company here in the Raleigh area. The product is unique in a tremendous market, every house has one and needs it multiple times a year. I would love to speak to anyone who may help or may want to take a look to see if it is something you are interested in. Hope it is ok to post this here.
I really donāt understand the point of this entire development LMAO. The CEO is attempting to force all his WFH employees to return to FULL-TIME in-office schedules (meaning eliminating WFH entirely) to justify this insane campus, meanwhile people are leaving the company in droves in favor of companies that will pay better AND allow WFH options. I have a feeling this company will either go under completely in the next few years, or else scale WAYYYYYY BACK a la Citrix and this campus will sit mostly empty for a decade+
Thatās fine, still better to look at than the empty dirt farm that used to be there. Since this is super close to me, I wish it was something more publicly engaging. Maybe if they go out of business it will be LoL
ā¦honestly kinda what Iām anticipating/hoping for hahahaha
Someone needs to tell this guy that itās 2022, not 2002, and his entire model of running a business is antiquated. I canāt even wrap my head around a business deciding that building a self contained suburban campus laden with amenities and then demanding M-F occupancy for everyone is a good plan.
WFH is the future you can have your office towers but work from home is the future.
Until your boss says it notā¦ā¦
During the height of working from home (2021) it was only 17.9% of the labor force, and that number has since trended downwards in 2022. (US census info)
No, itās not.
Damnā¦ well that means more towers downtown.
Thatās when itās time to leave. Bosses donāt have all the control anymore. Younger workers realize that theyāre expendable to most employers and theyāre more than happy to go somewhere else if the terms of employment donāt suit their quality of life.
Just playing devilās advocate on 2 points:
During the post pandemic labor shortage, it has been a workerās market. That will likely change if weāre entering a recession and jobs become more scarce. Some individuals and industries will still have the option to go elsewhere if they arenāt happy with their current jobās demands, but many likely wonāt as hiring freezes begin and unemployment rises.
Also, as Drew pointed out, only a small portion of the labor force was able to fully work from home. However, the vast majority of the labor force does not work in office towers anyways. I have no idea what percentage that is, but that should be our focus when discussing whether we will be seeing construction of new offices downtown or the current ones sitting empty.
But what was the percentage of the knowledge worker workforce that was working from home during the pandemic? The labor force is way larger than just office workers. Your 17.9% metric is not telling the right story.
The future is neither full time WFH or full time in the office. The future is hybrid with more time at home and more purposeful reasons to go into an office.
This is exactly it. Few days in and a few days out. I think companies that execute remote work well will be able to boast that as a benefit too.
With the talent shortage weāve had recently, many companies have looked for talent in places they wouldnāt traditionally. Hiring now occurs anywhere those folks live. Frankly, that also makes it more affordable to hire than always hiring in medium/larger cities where offices are present. The expectation is that those team members will be remote unless thereās specific reasons to travel to an office/client.
my dad was a programmer for the state and he could have worked remotely in the late 90sā¦he usually only did when a problem occurred and didnt want the hassle of getting tp the office at 10pm.
Anyone willing to pay for the biz journal who read Kaneās interview regarding the potential political trade winds?
Check your messages, I sent you something.
It sounds like Vinfast wants to build asap but some delays due to NC/permits? Anybody knows the status of the plant?
Last I read was they were still working with the community on land acquisition, building future roads and intersections, etc. Not sure if thereās been any other articles out there since but this is from late August 2022.
