Business Expansion in the Triangle

It was not worth reading, that was a teaser. Same ole mumbo jumbo BS.

FWIW, WRAL had another article on VinFast up today. It says they’re trying to get all necessary permits to start building by the end of this year and be producing cars by Summer 2024.

If they make the schedule, that’s damn impressive.

Agreed, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anything going up that fast and of the proposed scale here in the United States. I’m just thinking something like 301 Hillsborough/Raleigh Crossing took 2-ish years for a skyscraper and we’re talking about a massive electric car factory here
Their CEO seems pretty confident so who knows, I know it’s not apples to apples but they got their factory up in Vietnam pretty quick.

In Vietnam, where VinFast began, the company built from swamp land to cars rolling off the assembly line in 21 months.

Went to Sanford two weeks ago for the first time in ages. Spent my time visualizing what the impact that VinFast is going to have on that sleepy corner of rural North Carolina. Oof!

You ain’t lying
seems about every other week or so the TBJ has an article about some big residential development with hundreds of homes coming to Sanford, Southern Pines, or somewhere else along the US 1 corridor. I think affordability will be a thing of the past for sleepy Sanford very, very soon.

Apple article in N&O today
probably a giant information nothing-burger because I’m guessing Apple is not picking up the phone & calling the N&O to tell them anything. Headline just states Apple is still coming but we don’t know when
which is probably all the article states
with more words.

Feel like this won’t change much in the short term for them as they already had a presence in RTP, but a nice landing spot for a newly formed entity in the long term.

That Glasshouse Kitchen there is really good. Pretty too. I loved the office building setup there too and joked I wish I worked there. I guess now maybe I could lol.

Hah, my girlfriend works at Glasshouse while she finishes her degree. Same owners as Wye Hill. Neat place.

I do work there right now (Alexandria Center). It’s pretty swanky, although the coffee is mid. Gonna be really tough when our lab moves to a worse building as we look to expand.

Even though their cars so far are pretty crap, looks like their Chatham county factory is moving forward. VinFast recently submitted site plans for their new electric vehicle facility to the county.

VinFast is government supported industry much like Hyundai in Korea. It won’t fail as long as the Vietnamese government supports it.

Kind of reminds me of the failure of Nortel Networks (Canadian government ended it’s assistance) :scream: :money_with_wings:

I love the biotech buildings there, and we had a great lunch at Glasshouse several months ago (even if they really do needs blinds or shades for the afternoon). Saw those rooms upstairs
looked really cool.

Slightly concerned about N&O’s report of sanitation grades, though, on their recent inspection:
“Glasshouse Kitchen (5 Laboratory Dr. in Durham) received a score of 86.5% during an inspection on May 10. The restaurant was in violation of 17 standards. Of these, eight were considered critical violations.”
