Business Relocation/Economic Expansion

Most people don’t understand what a hindrance having a single monopoly dinosaur utility company is for ‘emerging tech’ but also for big energy producers like manufacturing. Still baffling to me in 2023 we allow such a dinosaur model & allow this entity to even earn a profit at all. How is this capitalism? Dook is incentivized by our dollars to spend on giant (& probably not necessary) electricity plants.

I would love to see Dook disappear personally.

I would love to hear a reason why our Republican dominated legislature refuses to even study this issue. Seems anti-business, anti-free market.

I bet they all get a good chunk of campaign funding from Duke. Follow the money.

The average residential electricity rate in North Carolina is 13¢ /kWh, which is 24% lower than the national average rate of 18¢ /kWh. Currently ranked 16th in the US in lowest cost.

Bribes. They get bribes. Let’s call a spade a spade.

The rate here is half of what my father pays in CT. I know this because he assumed it was cheaper here, so texted me to confirm. It’s comparatively* still cheap to live here, notwithstanding increases in rent for some and new SFH prices (in desirable areas).

*Compared to places people actually want to live and have comparable industries to ours (tech, biotech).

A colleague of mine and I both have our AC out and are in the process of getting them fixed. She’s in Boston for reference. After snooping around the market, I am getting my compressor replaced for $3500, and I could have replaced my entire outdoor unit for about 9 grand. On the other hand, she’s getting quotes as high as $26,000.

The StartupBlink Global Startup Ecosystem Index (however reputable it might be) ranks “Raleigh Durham” as the 39th best place in the world to start up a tech company, between Sydney and Barcelona. Not bad neighbors!

My rate is 6.5c. I am on a time of day usage plan. There is a $8 peak charge per month for highest peak usage during the month for peak usage during a 5hr window on Mon-Fri which adds around 1.3c (the peak charge / monthly kW usage) for an average rate of ~ 7.8c. If on use as much as you want anytime of day plan my rate would be 11c. Have big loads on timers and pay attention to what I do during the “low demand period”. Oh and I also get a rebate of about one month’s bill each year. I do not think unregulated companies would give me that kind of rates. I’m on a coop that buys power from Duke.

Pretty sure Raleigh finally has a 2nd Fortune 500 HQ. With Net Income over $6B, that should place them well into the F500 given Fortune bases its ranking off gross revenue. Even with Net Income, FCB will be well into the list.

Fifth Third bank is valued 2 spots lower than FCB in most valuable banks. Fifth Third was previously ranked 415th

Sadly, you won’t see any changes for Raleigh. How big they are or become makes no difference in regards to any project in Raleigh based on their past :pensive:

maybe they will finally act like a ‘grown up’…& egomaniac bank like the rest of them & feel the need to build a Taj McColl to show how great of a bank they are to everyone

I can’t tell do you want FCB to build a tower or no? Sending very mixed signals here.

would love to see a nice 50+ addition to our skyline. But i was being sarcastic as banks are notoriously ego centric historically (Hugh McColl is a case in point) where they feel in order to impress everyone they have to build a giant high-rise. FCB has obviously gone against that trend…then again they were a really small bank until they acquired CIT Group…SVB made them very big.

I’d love to see FCB build a massive mixed use project personally, connected to a couple smaller high rises downtown instead of one massive building.

Did somebody say Nexus? I thought I heard Nexus.

IMO…First Citizens Bank “should” be the “:unicorn:Unicorn” that JK has been looking for, regarding his land at the intersection of Capital Blvd and Peace Street.   :unicorn:

Yeah they have a lot of choices to build in downtown Raleigh with all these 40 story reasonings. I’m sure they could get with a developer.

How awesome would that be? Live that idea
