I agree with this. The burgers are good, but they are kinda small. If they had a larger burger priced proportionally higher, I’d be ok with that.
I think that’s why I prefer Cook-out. Only fat, juicy fast food burger around
I ate at the chargrill on Atlantic last week and that burger was big and juicy. 1/2 lb hamburger steak.
I looove cookout but they’ve been shrinkflationing and simultaneously inflationing for years, and the burgers are dry >50% of the time.
I think you might have totally misunderstood my comment…
NIMBY whine and complain about everything you can’t even debate with them. I’m glad there a minority.
Bummer. An institution.
I feel like the media is conveniently suppressing the fact that chargrill plans to be incorporated to the design.
Also btw, I finally tried one for the first time a few days ago - best fast food burger by far.
Also @Yimbyforlife theres no reasoning or compromising with NIMBYs. There’s never an alternative or their solution to any problem. That’s why no matter how loud they scream it’s always a mistake to cave to them.
I believe that if you have a problem about something and don’t come with a viable solution, you are invalid.
The new CharGrill experience won’t likely be the same without the parking lot. That’s why we go there weekly. Quick in/out. And, our dogs get to hang out in the car while we eat.
On-street parking along Hillsborough is going to be impossible.
The same thing happened to my favorite White Castle on High Street in Columbus OH. Quick in/out, and open late when finishing a shift.
The block was sold and upsized. Still has the White Castle without the drive around. Not quite the same.
You’re probably right but a surface parking lot has no place at this spot anymore.
That land has too much value. I’ve seen some creative urban format drive up / drive thrus in Atlanta so they may be able to come up with something cool.
If they move CharGrill to the Boylan/Hillsborough corner, then it opens up possibilities.
The car experience is what makes CharGrill and CookOut work.
If CharGrill becomes a walk-up only, the user demographic changes quite a bit.
Perspective as to what could be possible at the CharGrill on Hillsborough Street…
Old White Castle at 965 North High Street, Columbus OH in the Short North arts district.
New White Castle at the same location (which now reportedly serves beer/wine). The drive-through is accessed through the parking garage on the back/side.
Could definitely see this happening on Boylan…
Interestingly, the car has nothing to do with my Char Grill experiences. I always walk the half mile there.
Now, if Blount/Wilson is really bold, they go after a resident buyout of the next parcel over where Temple Beth Or was.
And, then they buy/bulldoze the mess which is squatting on the old Snoopy’s site. Do it as one cohesive development as was done on Bloc 83.
That’s probably what will be representative of the demographic change for that location. It was conceived in the car-centric development patterns of the 60’s.
But, Raleigh and downtown are evolving. So, too will this CharGrill.
I did. I didn’t read Jeep’s comment that you were responding to. My bad. I thought you were saying Chargrill’s burgers were kinda small
So, with Elmwood being privately owned and not having any federal money involved with the block’s planned rezoning, there’s nothing keeping the owners from selling and demolishing the structure as they desire.
One could only hope for relocation, I guess. But, is there a suitable property nearby which could even receive the place?
Dang, lets hope not. My proposal is to move it N. Blount St, if there is room. I much prefer it stay where it is at, but it really needs to be saved.
That would be up to the potential buyer/developer, this being Blount/Wilson. If they did pursue this option, they would certainly score some positive public relations points in their favor.
I’d assume they would prefer making money over public relations points, since this is a business. But isn’t all of this planning contingent upon a 20 story rezoning being approved? I feel like everyone, especially the media and the pearl clutchers, is acting like this is a done deal. If the city wants to approve it regardless, then that’s one thing. However, if the city pushes back, things like incorporating part of CharGrill’s weird awning or moving this old house could definitely be potential bargaining chips, right? It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out. Worst case would be it drags out so long that by the time everything gets demolished, the recession hits and cancels the actual project.
