K I take back what I said. NO PARKING PEDESTALS! There.
Not sure exactly where to put this one, my apologies if its been posted elsewhere already. Saw this on the Raleigh Downtown Facebook page. “Marriott’s Moxy brand of boutique hotel could be coming to Glenwood South. 501 N. West St across from Smoky Hollow. 9 stories. Next City Council review on March 17 2023.”
*Edit - Saltwater taffy is now apparently also used for exterior building cladding.
Now that Leo’s moved it to this thread, scroll up 2 posts.
I really hope that this design is the correct one instead of the latter. I think it was just a lack of research on Raleigh Magazine’s part?
Yup. Saw that as soon as he switched it over.
Love it, No parking lots for buildings the city should ban it.
That is the design in ASR review. Now it may change between ASR, SPR and Building permit review. The site is small and will be a challenge.
They got a lot of moxy building on such a tiny sliver of land.
I heard it’s going to mess up plans for high speed rail that might come someday. Does anyone have any thoughts on that?

@colbyjd3 did you ever get some answers from Jason on this topic?
to self: don’t take the bait don’t take the bait don’t take the b…
I dunno, I heard that if high speed rail hasn’t been built yet then that means it definitely isn’t important. Besides, If they do need to build it they should just build the downtown segment in a tunnel. It would only need to be a couple miles long. No biggie amirite?
to self again: Ah dangit I took the bait again!
I played phone tag with a guy from the NCDOT Rail Division for a bit and got kind of tired of the back-and-forth. Perks of your outreach teams working office jobs… it’s kind of hard to get in touch with them if you also work an office job.
I really hope that the Moxy is just on hold and wasn’t canceled
True, but wasn’t this in a spot we largely agreed was not ideal for future rail expansion?
Still, its a cool/hip brand and getting a property would be a positive.
Given that the state just got $1.1 billion from the feds to build this high speed rail route, turning nebulous “future rail expansion” into something far more concrete, I certainly hope that the Moxy will not be moving forward as planned.
Find somewhere else. There are plenty of options!
The developer bought the lot for the supposed Moxy Hotel last week. $4.6m for 0.24 acres.

Very nice looking. The property is located at 501 N. West St. (currently a vacant lot, I believe).
Oh nooooo but what about the high speed rail project that the government pinky promises they’re gonna get around to thinking about maybe perhaps possibly in the next [certain number] of years!!!
Awesome. I assumed this was dead, and I still want the Kimpton way more, but I’ll take any progress. It’s location across from Smoky Hollow will help the connection to that area from Glenwood South too. If it gets built lol.
