Never had their beer. Will have to try them out. But it’s not a brewery - it’s a beer ‘project’. lol - these names kill me. ‘Food concepts’ and ‘beer projects’.
Smoky Hollow also just posted about this from their IG: Smoky Hollow on Instagram: "COMING SOON to Smoky Hollow in 2023 📣 We're excited to announce the addition of three North Carolina-native retail tenants at #SmokyHollow – @heatraleigh, @newanthembeer, and HUSH Hair Lash Brow! Head to the link in our bio to read more 👆"
So does this mean Heat is moving out of their space in Glenwood? Is that part of a reasoning?
Axios just posted an article as well, saying it will be their taproom.
I think the old Heat is located within the Creamery redevelopment so they have to move.
I won’t use Heat or get my eye lashes done. But should be good for bringing some traffic into Smoky Hollow. Hope the rest of the way we see more food / drink concepts in Smoky Hollow tho.
As a resident of The Line I’d still love to have a coffee shop, breakfast spot, and pizza.
You’ll still be able to walk to Bloc83 for all three of those in the coming months, I agree though that it’d be alot more convenient if they were all simply a trip downstairs though.
We’ve been in the Line for almost two years and joke that they’d wait 'til I moved out and then BBQ, whiskey bar, brewery, etc. would all cut the ribbon the following week.

Just outside the beltline, but I know a lot of folks here would be interested:
Ancillary Fermentation opens tomorrow at noon.
Perspective is an interesting thing. For those of us who are long time Raleighites, I don’t consider this location as just outside the Beltline. That said, and given how the city has sprawled in the last 40+ years, I understand your POV.
Well it’s not inside the beltline… Or do you mean it’s not close enough to be “just outside?” It’s slightly less than a mile. That’s a walkable distance, even for me!
Yeah, I mean that my perception is that it’s not just outside the Beltline. For me, just outside the Beltline is North Hills and only goes as far north as St. Albans Dr.
Like I said, it’s all just my perspective as a long time Raleighite.
Agree. I used to work really close to this location and I never go up there now that I work much closer to home. It’s the walker’s perspectives, I guess!
I’m not super interested in driving somewhere to drink alcohol when there are plenty of great places to do that within stumbling distance from home!
I only occasionally go up there for the 1-2 punch of German discount grocery shopping at Aldi and Lidl. I NEVER think of driving to go somewhere to drink.
I’ve only lived here for 20 years, so my perspective is skewed.
Not necessarily ITB, but some bad news for the highest rated brewery in the area. Barrel Culture posted on instagram that they’ll be closing at the end of the year.
Shocked by this one because the brewery in RTP was always busy and it’s pretty well respected in the craft beer community. Wondering if the suburban North Raleigh location caused issues, I always wished they had put a place in DTR instead of up there because I think it would’ve done great.
Oh darn, one of the ones I never visited specifically because of the location. What a shame.
My friend just mentioned this to me. We have after work beers there maybe every 2 or 3 months. I never cared for the small, expensive, sweet beers but I like hanging out with people and beer in general, so I would go. No great loss to me personally, but I know a lot of people who will be sad about this.
Not local beer, but does anyone know of a downtown bottle shop that carries a good variety of German stuff? I’d love to find some Kloster Andrechs bottles. Closest I’ve seen them is Guglhuph in Durham (which is amazing, btw!)
Good to see Red Oak gets love here, they’re great. But tbh their brewery felt super… And I hate to use this word… Cringe? I think the Robert Frost quote plaque on the way in just set the tone for me lol. But I love their beer too much to care.
