Downtown & ITB Beers

Hmmmmm, how… puzzling :sunglasses:

I really, really hope that the name of this bar was in fact a HIMYM reference.

I think Cary had an ‘attempt’ at a German-style restaurant with German-centric beer called the Cary Bier Garden off Cary parkway. It’s no longer there and now it’s called Okja I think?

The Irish got here first.

Funguys 5th Anniversary is absolutely packed today, line out the door. This is truly our diamond in the rough brewery, hopefully they can get a better location or the Hodges street development catches up.

New Anthem is open in Smokey Hollow. Along with Burial they immediately move to a top 2 taproom in Raleigh.

However they are currently serving out of plastic cups which I was so very disappointed to see. Total bush league/amateur hour and will affect my desire to go there. They don’t do that in Wilmington so not sure what is up with that.

I assume since they literally just opened and are still in soft opening mode, that they’re probably waiting on glassware to arrive. I doubt plastic would be their permanent model. From what I’ve seen on here, though, the taproom is pretty sterile. Also read they are waiting on some decor that is coming too, so the glasses thing is probably similar.

I keep hearing rumors about Resident Culture coming to this area. It’s unconfirmed as to if that means Raleigh or Durham, though.

I also just heard about Aslin potentially setting up an outpost, again, “in the area”.

Fingers crossed that at least one of these ends up in Raleigh.

Looks like it’s planned to open in Durham.

Clouds Brewing closing in DTR; Midtown and Durham locations remain

Given that it was 10 years old, a typical term for a retail lease, I suspect that a lease renewal is the proximate cause. But beer brewing volumes actually declined in 2023, only the second year in recent times (2020 being the other):

I have a friend who bought a brewery down in Beaufort and he is now regretting that investment.

One of my favorite breweries in Charlotte, Blue Blaze, is also closing due to an issue with its lease - it located over near Wesley Heights and the redevelopment/gentrification there has been unreal and really pushed rents up.

I don’t think it’s been covered in this thread, but New Anthem’s Smoky Hollow location was not open this weekend amid ongoing rumors the brewery might imminently close one or more locations.

New Anthem Raleigh is permanently closed

Has anyone been to Incendiary in the Bloc 83 development? Looks like they put up some new signage. Just curious how they’re doing.

I was there last Thursday. It’s a cool spot, and it will probably a go-to for me.

But the Bloc 83 courtyard is very unwelcoming if you have a dog. Incendiary has to have these signs that tell customers that dogs are allowed only in their small area and not on the rest of the property. Pretty lame on Bloc 83’s part. That’s a real Houston move :-1:

Yeah we’ve been a few times, including a dtr meetup there. I like the spot, the beers are decent. I usually prefer the ones in cans from the fridge.

It’s a lot of fun. They specialize in some high ABV styles so watch out or they’ll sneak up on you
