I mentioned that in a recent tweet as well. I think they should stick to Penmarc.
Penmarc is a solid name no doubt. Unique if nothing else. Downtown south is extremely boring and lazy imo.
I have sent the City Council & Wake County Commissioners two supporting emails concerning the two stadium projects asking for hotel / food tax funds . I am for sure , not a computer person , so I don’t know how to copy & post my two messages on this site . The first message was just a general supporting message for MLS Stadium & " Friends Of Wake County Sports Stadium " . This message was sent yesterday & I had not planned to send another message until today when I had this new thought . This is basically my second message sent to City Council , Sid Hutchinson Chairman of Wake County Commissioners , Mr. Kane , Former Mayor Tom Bradshaw Jr. " A True Story " App. back in 1962 minor league baseball owners went before The Raleigh City Council asking for money to upgrade Deveraux Meadows Baseball Stadium & the council voted no , wanted to spend this money on other projects. Right away Durham leaders got in touch with the minor league people & the rest is history . I believe that if Raleigh Leaders does not approve Mr. Malik & Mr. Kane’s Hotel / Food Tax Money Request , Durham will be in touch with both Mr. Malik & Mr. Kane very soon . I also support " Friends Of Wake County / Raleigh Sports Stadium Project even if you have to shorten Mr. Kane’s funds the 20 million $ from his grant to go to the 8,000 seat Sports Stadium Project . I do understand from a good reliable source that this project is still on go . Best Regards , Dwight
How about Malikane??

In all seriousness, why wouldn’t we just use the legacy historic neighborhood name: Caraleigh?
This make so much sense. South Downtown is very vanilla sounding to me.
It’s Downtown South. Not that flipping the words makes it any better.
I don’t really care what it’s called, as long as it gets built!
Town Down South?
who really cares??

Too many vowels for a ‘tech’ city.
@Loup20
Good find, thank you!
Unfortunately it puts me in the same thought process as before thought. Except for a few new items of info, are we truly in a Charlotte has a better chance then Raleigh?
A lot of it might come down to who has the deepest pockets. MLS tends to look for ownership groups with a lot of money so they don’t get panicky when they start taking on losses. If Tepper is going to swing his bank wad around it could carry a lot of weight.
Perhaps Mr Kane and Mr Malik should invite Mr Goodnight of SAS to dinner to see if we would like to come on board. The name of his company was on the soccer field in Cary before , so maybe he does have some interest in soccer.
I was just looking at the suggestive renders for the project with all of this new office and living space.
Especially in this overhead view… similar to the Nashville Yards project (featuring the 5000 person Amazon campus and a bunch of residential towers and entertainment centers)… this could really be a catalyst for growth for years to come.
I actually think that giving both Raleigh and Charlotte teams would be a brilliant idea. It would be an instant rivalry and would get a lot of interest. NCFC vs the Charlotte Silk Stockings!!
What could be better than replicating the Portland-Seattle situation in NC.
I am actually getting excited about the potential for a derby!
The Charlotte Silk Stockings!! Love it
Oh boy. Got a response from country commissioner Adamson.
Good Evening Mr. Bost,
First, I want to let you know that I read your email.
I am also excited about this project but there is a process required before The North Carolina Football Club can receive public funds:
· Multiple organizations are competing for a portion of the proceeds from the county’s Hospitality Tax. That’s the revenue generated from the tax you pay when you stay overnight in a local hotel and eat meals at local restaurants.
· The North Carolina Football Club is one of those organizations vying for funding. In its project plan, NCFC indicated it would need $11 million annually for 30 years from the Hospitality Tax to build and maintain a new soccer stadium in downtown Raleigh.
· Wake County Manager David Ellis and City of Raleigh Manager Ruffin Hall – along with staff – have gone through a very deliberate process to consider funding opportunities. They worked openly to determine how to best allocate the limited funds.
· On Wednesday, June 19, the managers met and publicly presented their funding recommendations. NCFC’s stadium project was not one of the projects recommended for direct funding.
· Next in the process, the recommendations will be presented to the Raleigh City Council and the Wake County Board of Commissioners in July. The elected officials will be asked to approve the funding decisions at their respective August or September meetings.
· At this time, Wake County is not investing any money into the downtown stadium. But, if the recommendations are approved as currently proposed, the project representatives could compete for $42 million in funds identified through the Medium Projects process, which we anticipate will begin the late fall/early winter of 2019. All funds allocated in this second tier of funding would require a match.
Well, if Charlotte gets a team who will Raleigh support? DC or Atlanta?
