Wow!! Can’t wait to add this to the trail. That outside area right at the corner of the lot would be a great spot for some live music IMO.
LOVE THIS. I can only hope the final product looks even half as amazing as these renders. MORE OF THIS PLEASE!!!
This looks amazing. Can’t some soon enough!
Awesome! Now if we can just get something like this to replace the McDonalds on the corner of Peace and Boylan.
Lol this is too fancy for BBQ…
Super pumped for it though - the DTR BBQ trail needs to happen!!
Any updates on the Ed Mitchell BBQ joint on Creekside Drive?
LOVE these renderings. Not a mask in sight!
Lawrence BBQ in Boxyard RTP (and the other vendors) is opening June 5.
Not in DTR, but will be a nice addition to the local BBQ scene!
Wyatt’s Barbecue is not going forward with plan to join the Gateway Plaza.

I can’t say that this is a surprise given the current business climate. If I were opening a new place, I think that I’d delay it right now.
Staffing is probably the biggest issue a restaurant faces right now. That and supply shortages for cooking equipment…
Discovery Channel is doing a spin-off of it’s “Moonshiner’s” series called smoke rings. The first episode featured NC whole hog BBQ and Sam Jones was the guest judge on it.
Some updated news on Longleaf Swine. Looks like construction will finally begin with an anticipated spring opening date. From their Facebook post:
Ben here: I am thrilled to announce we have officially closed on 300 E Edenton Street. Construction begins immediately on the first brick and mortar for @longleafswinebbq. Adam Cunningham and Marc Russell are two of the most talented, resilient, and inspiring individuals I’ve ever met. I’m honored to partner with them and establish Longleaf Swine as a Downtown Raleigh favorite.
The building itself began as a Walter Teague designed Texaco gas station. Oakley Collier Architecture worked to incorporate the Teague aestethic while breathing new life into the space. Both Matt Oakley and Bailey Alred have been instrumental in helping us create our vision. If you were a patron of Oakwood Cafe, you will notice some pretty big changes! We’ve restored the original mechanic windows by hand and hope to keep as many original features as possible. I will forever be grateful to Gordon and Lora Grimes for understanding the vision and partnering with us.
Downtown Raleigh has had it rough this past year. Some days I would drive through Fayetteville Street, with sidewalks empty and windows boarded up, and be filled with abject terror. What kind of fool would open a business in this environment? And, a restaurant at that? It felt a bit like buying a ticket for the Titanic after it hit the iceberg.
But, diamond hands don’t shake. Optimism was always on the horizon and the support we received gave us the fortitude to move forward. The plywood eventually came down, storefronts reopened their doors and the sidewalks are filled once again. Soon the masks will come off and many new buildings will go up. The downtown landscape will change and Raleigh along with it. Progress is inevitable.
Everyone has a new normal. We’ve come to realize how and where we share an experience is just as important as who we are with. We hope the space at Longleaf Swine will remain a constant in your life.
Thank you to everyone who has ordered pickup, catering, and come by the pop ups at Standard Foods. We could not have survived without you! Please follow the Longleaf Swine and @davisrealtydevelopment accounts for food service updates and renovation progress.
We will see you in the Spring!
Wow, what a dump 🥸

Bring it on!!!
A bit off topic, but there’s been talk for years of establishing a “trophy” for the winner of the State/Carolina game. In the spirit of Alabama’s Iron Bowl, Mississippi’s Egg Bowl, Washington’s Apple Cup, etc, I really wish they’d rally around the idea of the “BBQ Bowl” and have some kind of barbecue themed trophy for the winner.
I think Hayes Permar had the idea of cooking a whole hog at the stadium during the game and letting the winner have the postgame feast, haha.
But I’d love to see a hog statue, pig cooker, or something to celebrate our state food in some way. If cost were an issue, I’d bet some local pitmasters could sponsor the award? Maybe slap their name on the thing? Who knows, but fun to think about!
