It was announced earlier. Had its own story, if I recall correctly.
Finally got to LLS, loved it! I’d give an A to the pulled pork, brisket, collards, sweet potatoes (covered in agave syrup and goat cheese
). The only thing that was slightly meh was the cornbread. Just ok. Wish they’d replace it with hush puppies or corn sticks, then it’d be perfect for me. Otherwise, great experience and super cool vibe. Lots of space heaters so being outside while it was chilly was fine.
…another BBQ place with iffy cornbread?? Why the hell can’t we get some good ass cornbread in this city??
So, has anyone tried the BBQ Lab yet?
Agree with your assessment! Super great food, atmosphere, and outdoor bar!!
The pork ribs were pretty good - flavor was amazing, but they were not as fall of the bone as my Dad’s ribs (dry rub, slow baked, finished on grill with sauce).
If we could get some sort of retail on the opposite corner at the surface lot… that would make this intersection a true destination.
Once upon a time Crawford & Son had a cornbread pudding with melted honey butter on it and I still think about it. That was maybe 2 years ago. But he’s not in the BBQ business…
Well perhaps he should branch out!!! Maybe the new Iron Works concept will be BBQ???
Went by today and it was packed. I did not stop in be the smell was heavenly. Lots of finger licking going down.
Thanks. I was thinking about trying it out this weekend. Hopefully it won’t be that packed since a lot of people went out of town.
Yeah, but a lot of us came to visit.
Isn’t that gluey brick-like cornbread that places like Sam Jones serve some kind of ENC tradition? It’s awful, and no one I know likes it, but I think there’s some historical reason they do it.
Yeah, the tradition is that it’s humble pooor folk food - just cornmeal and water - the ‘issue’ is that it doesn’t have any of the good fatty ingredients added that make the cornbread yummy and moist…
Unpopular opinion (maybe?), but I LOVE the flat, dense cornbread! My favorite BBQ place is Bunn’s in Windsor, and they’ll make you a sandwich using that delicious flat cornbread. The fluffy cornbread just doesn’t do it for me. Different strokes I guess. Happy Thanksgiving!
I’m not a huge cornbread fan. I associate it with poor people too, and being dense and dry.
Anything La Farm makes is 100x better, and I’d argue would pair well with BBQ. Not the tradition, I get it. But some cornbread is definitely better than others. Averde in Cary is the same owner as High Horse was downtown, and he brought that cast iron skillet cornbread with honey truffle butter to it. Just had that last weekend and it was so so good!
It’s no accident…
I like it. Fluffy cornbread is too much like corn muffins.

Here’s Bunn’s sandwich with their flat cornbread. If you’re ever passing through Bertie County, make sure to check it out!
Read the Sam Jones response regarding their ‘corn bread’.
Sorry. Not sorry. Wow!
Hubs won’t go back to Sam Jones because of that corn bread, and their lack of hush puppies. However, those sweet potato corn muffins would be worth a try.
May even try making a batch, myself…
Well, I can’t say that I blame him. I need hush puppies with my ENC Q.
