“The music’s gonna be louder than most other restaurants,” says Rapillo of the culmination of the two concepts. “You have to pass through the dance floor—hopefully setting the vibe of a fun place you see in New York… or a supper club.”
If there’s one thing I love about a restaurant, it’s music so loud I can’t talk to the people I’m with. Maybe I should just move into the units upstairs with the other old people. I’m sure they’ll hate it too.
But yeah, it does look cool. I think if marketed properly, this could be a draw and also give people staying in the hotels something to do besides stay in the hotels.
White Lodging is really good. They built a JW Marriott in uptown Charlotte and they always do lots of restaurants and bars that appeal to locals too. Plus they are building another high rise hotel in Southend. This will be good for downtown Raleigh as a Westin is a better brand than Sheraton even though they are all apart of the same family. Most of their hotels are built from the ground up but I guess this was such a bargain they went for it.
Call me crazy but what if they painted the exterior brick a nice fresh color??? Would certainly do a LOT to update the optics and really make it known that it’s a “new” hotel under new ownership and management, IMO.
I hope they don’t change too much - I like the existing Sheraton, it’s an attractive building. I feel like any modern-style Westin design appended to the outside of the existing structure would not be done well and would end up looking worse than if they’d left it alone…but we’ll see. Still excited for a Westin downtown
I normally like white painted brick but not next to the white Marriott and all the beige around there. Depending on the renovation they could basically gut the place and take off the exterior, or it could be a touchup and some new furniture
Yeah good call on it being next to the Marriott. How about they paint the brick a nice HOT PINK or NEON GREEN… or an even better variation of green that shall not be named
wlll be back in my old haunt in may. this buidling, the former old fitzgerald casino hotel got a redo back in 2012 or so. they removed gambling from the hotel, renamed it the whitney peak….and put a climbing wall and platform at the base. not sure about insurance costs but might be neat for FSM if doable.
