How about a Ponce City market type development? Mix of shopping / dining / apartments / entertainment. Can’t forget the best part of Ponce, the rooftop carnival.
Durham BoxCar is huge (at least 3-4x’s bigger than Raleigh’s) and doesn’t seem to effect them drawing even larger crowds than the Raleigh location.
As for an urban Target, don’t think that’s happening with the Target on Hillsborough only a mile or so away.
But man I so hope we can get a big anchor tenant in that space to prop up Fayetteville Street again!
Exactly, a bigger Boxcar would just mean more space to pack even more people in haha
Time to bring back the IKEA discussion! lol
Fireforge is downtown next to the new federal courthouse.
For restaurants do Jianna. Anchorage is also very good, but it’s in West Village which, while cool, is separate from downtown
I’d be for Ikea but am not sure if they’d go for it. NYC looks like they have an Ikea planning studio downtown but the rest are the outskirts. They could try to put Ikea at Crabtree since the tower that was going to be put in is more than likely not going to happen anymore. I wish they’d provide some type of update for the old Sears building.
Target would be a good draw for people living downtown as well as for the people staying at the hotels downtown.
Apparently they don’t even want to build full scale stores anymore. Shame because with the 3 colleges here they really missed out on a good market for them.
Urban Targets seem to really do well and I wouldn’t discount them because of their mini NCSU location since it’s focused on serving just the students.
I want a Ponce City Market type of development to fill out the rest of the Cabarrus Kane property. It would be a departure from the original Planned Developement they proposed, but you wouldn’t need a lot of height, and something rooftop that overlooks the tracks/downtown would be amazing.
The mix would be retail, food hall, and shared co-working throughout. I’m not sure how much space is available or would be needed, but some industrial lofts/condos would be cool as well. That said Kane doesn’t develop resi for sale, only rentals to flip as a portfolio/building.
It would be cool to have three food halls in downtown.
I can imagine a food hall being successful in the Seaboard/north Person St. area.
I think more entertainment venues on that street would activate it. Sometimes all it takes is aesthetics to get the ball rolling. At night they could add light all the way down the strip to showcase the street as the main artery. Closer to City Plaza a Bowling/Arcade Venue could be fun. A movie theater on fayetteville since there isn’t really a theater downtown besides at kids marbles museum. A food destination on the actual city plaza would be nice I like that idea. I think having a big screen purposed at the bloc83, but on the city Plaza but larger to show casing events and activities happening around downtown Raleigh would be great for tourist aswell as locals. Plus bonus it will generate business to businesses having things or events show cased. Fayetteville also could use atleast one or two mainstream restaurant and retail. Plus with all the festivals and events during the summer would really make Fayetteville “the spot”. Fayetteville Street activated by Walkability and entertainment.
Now you’re playing into @John’s desires. Toss in a water feature and you’ve got it!
A development like the Sundial in Downtown St Pete would be nice!
Movies, shopping, restaurants, maybe a 40-story apartment / condo on top.
Union special is moving into 401 Fayetteville Street! Looks like a second location.
Nice, that’s what we need.
That’s awesome Keep them coming! You know what else I just thought about. What about like a 24hr diner right on Fayetteville will surely keep activity on that street especially for those who live downtown. Even a great breakfast spot like a mom and pops. The more spaces filled up the lively the street. Good to hear Union Special is going to occupy a spot on Fayetteville
I think Tama closed and this is going in its spot.
You’re right. I looked into it and it’s Tama Tea that closed. Glad to see Union Special coming downtown!
Mecca would be that diner but not sure what the future holds for them.
Very cool, but I also wonder about the longevity of that space… that 1 story building and surrounding lot is PRIME for a tower, and the land has to be worth tens of millions…
