Fayetteville Street Developments and Vitality

Dats right… you know bro.

I think this verifies that investing in attractions on Fayetteville Street works. The city should be doing lots more of these types of things.

*Edit: for what it’s worth, we took our kids down there last Thursday night and I was absolutely shocked at the amount of people walking up and down Fayetteville at 7pm.

People yearn for experiences. The lesson is hopefully being learned.

Forget closing the street. Let’s just put things there that humans want to actually go to.

It is crazy how fun that area is when there is a festival or market. Didn’t know anything was going on tonight but thought it could be fun for my 2 year old to see the art lights. I was very pleasantly surprised to see the Christmas market and walk up and down that. Bought a $3.59 cookie and then $32 hand made sweater for my daughter. On the way to the car I saw that the kids book store “Read with Me” was open, so I stopped there and bought $25 in books. Was thinking how much more I liked this than going to a mall. Why don’t we have the markets with vendors like every other week. Gives a good reason to be down there and I bet the brick and mortar store front would get more tenants from that.

Same lights as last year

Maybe they’ll light Chatham County better for you?

As expensive as these lights are, I would expect to see them again for future years.

Lame, at least roast me in a more creative way.

They’re absolutely not (all) the same lights as last year.

If I’m wrong, tell me where these were last year.

You mean having things to do gets people to come to downtown? Weird. Anyways lets keep the Canes in West Raleigh while the owner is still undecided if he wants to move them away to a different city.

He’s very certain he wants the team to stay here. But if they (the state, Authority, city, etc) are unwilling to give him what he wants… he may consider relocation

The city should build on the collection each year and consider making some of the less obvious holiday ones permanent.

Some of them are in lease and not a permanent option but I agree, and some have stuck around, though apparently that bores some…

As reported by RALtoday:

CrossFit SERVE, a Raleigh-based gym, is opening a second location on Fayetteville Street on the ground level of the First Citizens Bank building. The new wellness spot is expected to open in January .

I think Heat does a good job of activating the Glenwood S/North St area when they have classes going (and extending into the streets) and hope CrossFit SERVE will have a similar effect on Fayetteville St.

If for nothing else, I’m just happy to see businesses choosing to open on Fayetteville St.

I am guessing that it will probably will be on E Martin St next to Mecca (but in the same building).

Also cool that that building will finally have some ground floor activation.

No mention of whether that’s a market rate lease or subsidized. CrossFIT has usually gone towards sites which have a fairly low overhead. And, they’re going to have to certainly pack ‘em in to break even.

I’ve always thought it was interesting because their main location is right next to the Lincoln Theater. Personally, not a huge fan of CrossFit for my workouts, but I’d definitely be interested in the business/functional case for a 2nd location really close by their primary.
