Here’s an example of Plensa’s work in Miami Beach. It’s not a huge piece by his standard but it does speak to his capabilities.
I would argue turning down any public art installation that is being offered for the price of a $0.00 donation is uhhhhh dumb hahaha
It would have ruined 'the character of the neighborhood".
The NCMA had a pair of Plensa ‘heads’ on loan for a while, they were replaced with the Mirror Labyrinth just recently.
I believe I remember that the installation in City Plaza was a large LED mesh that covered the plaza, of course firefighters had concerns () but also think it was somewhat disruptive to the view from one end of the street to the other.
These are the type of installations we need to have all year long. The Sonic looking arches should stay.
Plensa is a very nice man and would have dropped the wires if the city had discussed it with him. He was told to design a “plaza”. That’s probable a different concept in Spain than Fayetteville St which was really just a wide spot in the road.
Holiday decorations and events have made Faye Street tonight at least look not dead. Helps that the abandoned store fronts are decorated.
Bill King announced Chido Taco will be moving into the former Living Kitchen space on Fayetteville St.
Also mentioned more additional new tenants have signed leases with more to come.
Is this a 2nd location or moving out of McNeill Pointe?
I was walking around the other day and noticed one of the old places (name escapes me) had the lights on for the first time I’ve noticed in a while. Assumed they were doing maintenance.
Pretty legit tacos. A little too pricey for my budget but I’ll probably visit them a few times through out the year.
That other taco place on Blount Street doesn’t seem to be happening?
very solid tacos…doing a lot with the lame designed strip mall location known as McNeill Pointe.
Ooh, I’d go to Fayetteville St for Chido. Their street corn is amazing.
The RALtoday newsletter this morning says this will be a 2nd location!
From Colin Campbell who lamented the closure of Plaza Cafe for his Indian lunch menu options:
Nice tacos and Nepali momos. That will definitely improve Faye Street. Hopefully more retail is coming now that those retail spots under the Sir Walter Raleigh Hotel are finished.
Yeah those tacos are so unique from the other 100 taco joints, 200 taco trucks and Taco Bell in the the city that the street will teeming with high dollar buyers looking for dat Gucci. Retailer’s will see this and take over every store from to take some of that Taco money.
Rumors a second Sir Walter Coffee location going in Faye Street. Makes sense since the one on Davie Street was a success. Anyone confirm?
I would find that hard to believe, given the first sir walter is like 3 blocks away…but woudn’t be the first time I’ve been wrong.
Ahh, the Starbucks strategy.
