Bodega Taqueria on 16th

i like the thought too!

I was just there a month ago lol.

Bodega

Fairly decent but the fish tacos could use some work. Because white fish is a delicate flavor if you’re making Baja-style fish tacos the fried battered fish should not be drown out by the toppings. There should be a big chuck piece of fish.

I would for sure pay over $8 a taco for any Raleigh taco shop to sell me something even remotely close to the image below:

Standard probably isn’t what you’re looking for (different flavors - tempura fried with cabbage slaw / radish / crab aoili), but their fish is prominent and crispy and I believe it clocks in at $6.

This is far off topic from Fayetteville I guess but I’m hoping that Yatai will nail the baja fish tacos when they open.

To try to be at least a little on-topic, remind me what this place is gonna be? Is it really gonna bear my name? Will I be compelled to visit?

I don’t think there’s a plan just yet for the Fayetteville Street side. They’re just renovating it. I think, on the other side, this is where the ABC store is going to be.

I did snap a pic inside while the door was open a while back. Nice little basketball hoop in there.

On another note, snapped some pics of some changes I saw today around the area.

In summary:

  • You really couldn’t put up the last copper panel?
  • Fayet Teville Street. Some nice decals for the renovated highwoods spots.
  • It’s Greg Hatem’s world, we’re just living in it.
  • Some nice tables and chairs out front of the London Bridge Pub just in time for (hopefully) cooler weather.

The streateries/parklets like this and the one at Raleigh Times is the best thing to happen to downtown streets in quite some time.

I’ll add that, while it looks nice, it probably shouldn’t take over 50% of the sidewalk. The right side only has about 2 tables. No need for chains there. The left chains could be inside the trees and still give enough space to the people eating.

Luckily, they’re chains and not permanent. I’ll be interested to see if they stay like that or if they’re testing to see what they can get away with.

If they get away with it, that strip to walk through is pretty thin. But, if this makes people more likely to eat here, then I’m fine with it.

I agree it seems a little much with no one here. But on the weekends it’s very busy with pick up orders from Morning times, that’s the smaller chain area near the door. It’s sometimes a zoo with everyone’s dogs, kids running around, strollers. It’s a lot going on, so I’m sure it helps the servers too.

abc store on fayetteville st…smart.

Got these at Chido just to see. Looks like you may have to keep searching (I thought they were tasty though).

Whatever lunch rush there has been doesn’t seem to affect dinner hours. The place has most tables filled but there’s no line.

I like Chidos. Owner used to be one of my neighbors. However I did find it rather expensive for the amount of food. Always still hungry after and $25 poorer.

Fill up on a box of pasta from Harris Teeter before you go. Then you’re just there for the flavor.

Still out $25 plus $.79 for the pasta . I remember .39 tacos at Taco Bell. Make you run to the border.

Definitely makes you run somewhere, but I don’t know if it’s the border.
:toilet:

I spent 40 bucks at Bar Taco for lunch and didn’t even get any tacos. Full though. Maybe you just need to up your budget.

You can still get those “make your own box” specials via the Taco Bell app for cheap.

The fuck you be eating there? Everytime I go to Bar Taco I spend less than $20 and I eat good. I do get the tacos though. Their prices ain’t bad at all.

Since you asked… Duck birria broth thing, lobster salad, paloma, tax and tip. Everything was tasty and reasonably priced to me

Oh ok so you counted the drink and tip too, now that makes sense.

Apparently the city has hired another consultant to try to improve Fayetteville Street and downtown in general.

Interesting that David Meeker says “Fayetteville Street doesn’t work for retail” and that we need to “reset our expectations”.

They want to define Raleigh’s identity and brand and acknowledge "our Main Street is on the brink of being a “blah-za”.
