Fayetteville Street Developments and Vitality

I think there’s some rosy retrospection going on in this thread. The mall was terrible. The street, while not perfect, is better.

Exactly. The mall was a nightmare!!! The street, while not perfect, has brought life back to downtown.

Romanticism is mother…

The entire context of downtown around the mall, and that incarnation of the pedestrian mall was terrible. The convention center separated the Capitol from the performing arts center. There wasn’t any investment in housing on the Mall itself and both Moore Square and the Warehouse District to its east and west had little investment.
THAT mall isn’t what I romanticize about, rather what the mall could have been in today’s context and a renewed interest in making Fayetteville a place for people and experiences.
If we had put as much money into improving upon the mall that we did into making it a street again, and if we had focused some of that money into providing housing to activate the mall, I think that we would have had a wonderful and special place by now. Alas, we will never know.

Friendly competition is good as an apple guy I think both could come downtown.

Well if it isn’t apple maybe other stores that sell technology, or jewelry, or expensive boutique stores are locally owned could be a good substitute for taxpayers. That would generate foot traffic.

Says in the bio that they’ll be ready by this summer. Based on what I’ve seen, they’re moving at breakneck speed. Will be a nice change to not see a restaurant take years to set up shop.

Interesting tidbit, I didn’t realize that Amber Moshakos had taken over as President of LM Restaurant Group from what I presume to be her father, Lou. Glad to see both some youth and to see it stay in the family, they’ve put out some nice restaurants.

More birdie info! Nothing earth shattering, but very promising!

Highwoods’ commitment to Fayetteville St is continuing to unfold.

The restaurant mentioned above in the Wells Fargo building is impressing those that have seen inside and it’s reported they’ll be open 20 hours a day!

The retail spots across the road alongside Benny’s pizza have all been leased and there should be announcements on those soon!

There’s a big name coffee outfit taking over the lobby of PNC but this one is a bit more on the DL so stay tuned.

Other things coming to Fville St are national retailers, art and lighting (but unlikely string lights across the street )

Very excite!

BOOOOOOOOOO.

Just kidding, holy shit all of that sounds insanely awesome. Do we know timelines? I know Birdies is planned for this Summer, but are the others moving at a similar breakneck pace?

So long as that “big name” isn’t a 3rd Starbucks location on Fayetteville St, then GREAT!

The name I’d want is Black and White. They just set up a spot in RDU, so hoping this makes sense too.

Dunkin, potentially some Krispy Kreme competition lol :eyes:?

KK’s donuts are astronomically better than Dunkin’s donuts.

Blasphemy to say Dunkin is better than Krispy Kreme.

He actually said the opposite. :doughnut:
