RALtoday mentioned this, I assume it is related?
I appreciate the information. 88? Why not 89,90,91?. This is incredibly disturbing. HH?
I suspect it’s because there happen to be that many trees, and not some secret white power reference. I agree that it’s odd WTVD let that slip through.
I doubt it’s that deep, man lmao. My guess is that there are … 88 trees down Fayetteville that are capable of being lit up.
Two rows of 44 each side. Four blocks of 11 each? My guess.
Speaking of Lights on Fayetteville----any news about those Big Four Light Towers at City Plaza? It keeps bugging me that most of them aren’t working right any more. One was flickering like a strobe the last time I was there, and another was stuck on blue.
As someone who sees these outside my window everyday, I too have noticed the city’s seeming neglect of upkeep on those towers. The lights have not worked properly for over a year.
86 by my count on my lunch jog just now. They aren’t uniform the whole way from the capitol to Martin Marietta. Five blocks.
They need to be removed, they’ve always looked tacky and weird. I feel like local artists could provide some better quality work that fits the location.
Edit: It would be nice if they were placed around Red Hat and/or the Convention Center. They fit the vibe of that area better and would pair well with the shimmer wall.
I was wrong yesterday. Recounted today and it is actually 88. Counted twice.
Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere, but the City is hosting a drop-in open house to show / discuss the Fayetteville Street Streetscape Plan this coming Monday (June 16th) 530-730pm at the CoR Museum.
I got excited to see something moving into the bottom of the Marriott Residence Inn by the convention center only to learn it’s yet another event venue/retail surface parking lot:
Heads up, the opening ceremony for the Fayetteville St. tree lights discussed above is going to happen tonight. DRA’s Live After 5 is happening today, and the Mayor will switch them on ~ 7:40
FYI it’s a distinct effort from the Fayetteville Streetscape plan that’s just starting (also mentioned above)
Someone get pictures!
Hard to capture it well on phone pictures, but I think it looks good! A nice touch down the street.
Live After 5 had a decent crowd. It’s a fun event to check out for free.
I dropped by the open house today, and now the survey is up. (I also posted this on the Surveys thread): Fayetteville Street Conceptual Design Alternatives Survey - PublicInput
any type of local interest stuff that could be maintined? for FSM benfit?
many many years ago the NFB (federation for theb blind) held meetings downtown, some place on wilmington if i recall…maybe some local org could benefit in a similar way.
Walked around F-street Friday night… quite a few of those trees’ lights already aren’t working lmao - can’t say I’m surprised - the Wade Ave bridge + Peace St bridge art project STILL has non-working lighting to this day. Everything is always so half-assed in this supposedly Top 5 fastest growing city in America. Makes no damn sense to me.
Yup every time I see that bridge at night it drives me crazy. When we install these things, we gotta maintain it too. Hopefully the tree lights get taken care of.
