They better get on the ball and order all of their tacky crap soon before the Chinese tarrifs hit!
at lunch time that would smell wonderful
TBH this aesthetic is kind of awesome. It looks like a Roman courtyard or something. The rotting joists above look like a pergola. They should clean up the debris, do what it takes to make it safe, maybe replace the weeds with something a little more intentional, perhaps add a retractable awning for weather protection, but otherwise… keep it the same??
Lots of places go to great extents to create this sort of weathered/decaying/ancient ruin etc appearance. Here it is entirely natural. And it looks really f*ing cool.
Are you sure that you aren’t trying to recreate a massive Berkeley back porch with that idea?..not that I blame you!
what was the problem with the building that was torn down here? Google street view shows a relatively new renovation that was torn down and left as this. Looks like it was never occupied. Was there a fire or something on floors 2 and 3? It’s decrepit, but hard to understand what happened here.
Some backstory: The Atrium – The Raleigh Connoisseur
And another pic from Olde Raleigh on FB, posted a hew hours ago:
The radio shack is 112, the empty one is 114.
Picture is b&w but looks like it was taken in the 80s (?)
But the guy on the left looks like he’s from the 1870s. Except the sandals…
Correct, 11/7/83 according to the FB post.
Shoot, b&w film was still widely used and easy to buy up until in the early 2000s when digital took over. It was quite popular, at least by hobbyists. A lot of people like(d) developing their own photos in a darkroom, and this was not easily possible with color film.
I worked at the camera desk at Best Buy in 2001 and they still stocked film (including b&w) and sold film SLRs (alongside expensive and mediocre but rapidly improving digial equipment) even then.
Empty back then, too… Has anyone considered that this plot may be cursed? I think y’all should stop poking around over there.
Either that or there’s an enchantment and if you manage to get inside you’ll meet some wizards.
I know, it just LOOKS like such an old picture… and then you got this DUDE looking like he just walked off the Stranger Things set. It just threw me for a loop
Check out that 4 door Chevy Chevette in the background! That car was introduced in 1978, so that alone means it couldn’t predate the late 1970s. My family had one of those cars in my youth. The 4 door Chevette production peaked in 1980, so it’s statistically more likely a 1980 model.
EDIT: Actually…after looking at photos of Chevette models on Wikipedia, the taillights and bumper would suggest that it’s a 1983 model.
Do my eyes deceive me? Is that a $6,000 yoda Lego minifigure? $6,000 as in SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS?
HH? Who’s responsible for this?
