Five Points, East End Market, & Raleigh Iron Works

Yep. That’s the one. No clue on timeline but I think some of the vendors in that retail plaza have started to plan relocation. Also 3-4 townhomes already under construction across the intersection

These ones?

Plus there’s at least 2 more single-family to townhome projects along Whitaker Mill; one next to Shiloh church (which I also believe is on the market?) and one near Hilton St.

Yes, is there a link for those? My understanding is that those are still up in the air depending if the developer can acquire all the lots needed. It might end up being a mega house on only the northern two as I’ve also heard the 3rd homeowner you circled is a long time resident who has been leading the NIMBY charge against basically every development in Five Points for years.

They offered her a ton of money for her house for this project and she said yes, but then people in the neighborhood called her out for her hypocrisy and she reneged. Again, just a rumor I don’t know any of the details.

I’ve heard there are ones that have been green lit a few lots down where the current MF property sits. I think it’s a quad plex currently but sits on a huge lot.

Feel free to share any details you know on this.

Money for me, but not for thee.

Right that is so funny. So she actually has zero integrity; basically whoever has the last word is what she’s going with LOL

She’s also building her own new mega house a few blocks to the east. I usually don’t mind modern-looking style but it looks … well… different.

Random question, but how do yall refer to the part of the city where Dock 1053, Raleigh Iron Works, and Wegman’s is? Midtown? Atlantic Ave? Southern North Hills (kidding)?

I’m sure there is a spatial technical term, but @GucciLittlePig and I refer to them to Ironworks, Dock 1053, and “the places next to East End Bistrot.” Until they are connected and accessible without having to move your car (or risking your life), I haven’t found a centralized term to the area.

raleigh magazine coined iron district a few years back. i think it works well.

as a transit inquiry, with, if true, more density, popping up on non- corridor streets….my experience with CAT, now Go Raleigh, was i had a bus either going past my front door in a SFH neighborhood or just approximately a 200 or 300 foot walk to catch one. does this type of development encourage better dispatchable bus service…in addition to the BRT hype?

The 2 (Falls of Neuse) bus runs every half-hour both ways on E. Whitaker at the northern terminus of Sunrise.

That’s pretty good neighborhood service.

in 84 i had the brentwood bus go right past my house, knew the driver by name…easy peasy to downtown.

You know there’s something special in the air when even the HVAC unit can’t help getting into the holiday spirit

I think the 2 is soon to be upgraded to 15min headways as well

New TBJ rendering I saw on Instagram today. McKinsey & Co. and Sokal are now shown as tenants at Raleigh Iron Works. What really caught my eye though is the pedestrian bridge over Atlantic Ave. I don’t remember seeing that before - has anyone else?

Pretty sure that’s always been there in the renderings. But that was back when the same developer owned both properties. Now the Dock 1053 site has changed hands - probably eliminates the bridge for good.
