Damn, that would’ve been a perfect spot for a pedestrian bridge too…
You’d THINK they’d be smart enough to consider that a pedestrian bridge between their properties would literally ONLY be beneficial to them BOTH… but nah, greeeeeeeeed baby GREEEEEEEED!

Not sure where Gateway Plaza stuff goes, but we were visiting there today for the first time in quite awhile. My penguin half had brunch with her friend at Mala Pata, and then I met her for beer at Mordecai and a cocktail at Natural Science. We also got an array of expensive but amazing truffles at Escazu Chocolate. This place has become a real fun little destination.
Not used to seeing this yet in Raleigh. It’s neat. Hopefully we get a few stars next year.
It seems like there ought to be a way to create a high-quality pedestrian connection from that shopping center to Iron Works. It’s only about a thousand feet.
botiwalla is legit and a huge add to the Triangle food scene.
Oh man this place is amazing. We just tried it in Asheville, and my wish for one in Raleigh is immediately granted. Time to buy a lottery ticket.
In the RIW area, Charlotte developer Beacon Properties is building 342 apartments at 915 Hodges St and will build a pedestrian bridge over the creek to connect to Crabtree Creek Greenway.

Love this. Hope this also pushes for some better pedestrian infrastructure in this area as everything between Iron Works and Midtown stitches together a bit more.
If this is the old ice rink, think they have had those properties for sale for the latter half of the year…..Hope this does get built.
I hope that they raise these up out of the flood plane.
it is the old ice rink, and if you don’t have a subscription, beacon said in the interview they plan to be done by 2028
Here’s a document from 2021 that includes some additional details: https://cityofraleigh0drupal.blob.core.usgovcloudapi.net/drupal-prod/COR22/Z-063-21-ORD.pdf
Assuming that document is still accurate, it looks like this may include some work for a greenway on the south side of Crabtree Creek as well.
This is from Beacon Properties website when they were still marketing this warehouse as a warehouse opportunity. https://beacondevelopment.com/properties/building/5722/hodges-street?
Interesting thing about Beacon they have developed some of the best new office buildings in Charlotte like the Railyard, LoSo Station and lots of warehouse industrial space in the area but never apartments. This is a new area for them and they have spent lots of money buying up older intown warehouse buildings and now I think this maybe their strategy. (to redevelop themselves into apartments etc)
a bit disappointed the article doesn’t seem to imply they are going after any sort of mixed used. other than the pedestrian amenities. anything on this road would get a lot of eyes.
Just saw this for 11 townhomes and 1 SFH @ 1607, 1609, 1611 Sunrise but guess that’s separate from the other project just to the north (@ 1619, 1621, and 1623 Sunrise).
First I’ve seen of something formal on it. Had just heard it was coming. Seems like a home run project and shouldn’t get much pushback from YIMBY 5 Points (East of Glenwood)
