A cidery coming to East End Market :grinning:.

For the sake of linking similar news, the cidery was also mentioned in the General Retail thread (probably better here).

He also mentioned that Grubb has about 40 acres of warehouses in that area (for future development)

Oh, I thought I read it somewhere else, thanks for pointing it out and sorry for the duplicate!

East End Market tallest structure knocked down from 15 floors to 11.

If that’s what it takes to meet the neighbors out of their ‘shade zone’, so be it. :slightly_smiling_face:
Still, transformative for the area!

The shade situation looks a lot more reasonable now, too.

I’m still bummed that they’re not grade-separating Whitaker Mill, but I hope this will still be good for bringing more restaurants and businesses to this part of Raleigh.

You know, when they sent the first letter to adjacent property owners maybe 1year and half ago, they were planning for 12 stories max.
Then the neighbors showed up at the first neighborhood meeting where we discovered the first renderings and it was showing 15 stories.
I think it’s all part of negotiation. Ask more at the beginning then make some concessions and you end up close to what you initially wanted :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:.

The games that get played are endless.

The date of the public hearing is June 1st at 7pm.
See this page to sign up to speak: https://raleighnc.gov/services/government/public-hearings-city-council-sign-speak#paragraph--259596
The information was.sent on the five points mailing list. I’m expecting some local activists to wake-up to speak against the case.

Yeah, it’s hilarious hearing people say that the Whitaker Mill / WF road is already congested when there are usually no more than 5 to 10 cars stopped at the light at rush hour in the morning…
I personally drove there every morning pre-covid and imo it’s very far from being congested.

City staff pointed out during the PC meetings that pre-covid, the traffic in this area tends to be stagnating / slightly decreasing!

WTH? Seriously?
I doubt you would post this message if you changed “white people” to “black people” or “Asian people”

Racist much? Why are you even talking about people’s race here? :-1:t2::-1:t6::-1:

I have the traffic study that was done for East End Market. I could not uploaded it because the file size is limited to 4MB and the PDF is 6.4MB.

You can just drop the link in here directly or find a spot elsewhere to host the file and drop the link here. Google drive or Dropbox are typically used.

When I did the traffic study for Raleigh IronWorks, we had the intersection of Whitaker Mill & Wake Forest Mill operating at a Level of Service C (meaning stable flow, at or near free flow). The average vehicle only had to wait 29.4 seconds at the signal in the AM and 21.5 seconds in the PM after the first phase of IronWorks was built out.

The signal timing at that signal certainly prioritizes traffic on Wake Forest Road which is why you’ll wait longer on the Whitaker Mill approaches but that has nothing to do with the fact that there’s adequate vehicular capacity at that intersection.

Los C on a busy city artery?! Man we have it good here. I can’t remember having any LOS cs on any work I’ve done in Atlanta :joy:

That’s surprising to me. As someone who drives through that intersection often (mainly on Whitaker Mill), it’s probably my least favorite intersection in Raleigh. The wait time is absolutely obnoxious (especially if you approach just after the light turns red). Like you said, traffic is light. Why do we have to wait 120 seconds on Whitaker, when there isn’t even anyone approaching on Wake Forest?!
