Five Points, East End Market, & Raleigh Iron Works

True. My comment was perhaps unwarranted in his case and more a potshot at the track record of serial entrepreneurs…Point taken.

East Bower Cider Co., located inside the new East End Market at 2020 Progress Ct., will be the first of its kind in Raleigh. Expected to open early August.

Drier (not a sweet bomb) cider! Can’t wait to try their stuff out!

the two owners have deep experience in the craft beer scene on a personal and professional level. I think it will be really well run and cater to a broad demographic. They will have plenty of other selections for the non-cider drinkers plus a ~3k sqft patio that looks great - what’s not to love!

I happen be close to one of the guys starting it and am very excited about this opening up.

It looks way different now!

I was going to try to take one of the inside through the window, but there were people inside looking at me.

East End Bistrot is coming along inside tho!

The view from Big Boss (first pic) is certainly different than I remember! Nice to see the apartments finally going up, despite the parking deck.

i had a strange obsession with parking decks in raleigh many years back. whether they are incongruent with raleighs growth path i dont know exactly. but at night by bike they were serene little places to visit.

Ironworks is about to be the most popular destination in Raleigh and it won’t even be close.

It’s that vibe that Raleigh is missing. Not the posh NH vibe, and not the downtown ‘I don’t know where to park’ vibe. It’s right in the middle. That ‘trendy’, hip, upper-middle class scene.

People can come and park in a parking deck, and then walk around hip warehouses in a confined mini-city. It may not be walkable/bikable and it will be very car-centric, but that’s what the demographic that they are going for want.

I thought this is what the Warehouse district was; or the section in between it and Glenwood South. I’m definitely looking forward to this development because I know I will go, but I don’t think I’d go as far as saying it will be the most popular destination. It is definitely another option of things to do. I enjoy the enthusiasm as it is definitely exciting.

Considering how popular Lynnwood and Bowstring are, this and East Bower will definitely expand that district / vibe.

And Big Boss down the road. Not super connected, but definitely within walking distance if wanting to park and consume.

Some slightly better bike infrastructure in this area, and it could also be appealing to head over to Neuse and Nickelpoint. Maybe even R&D!

Edit: I almost forgot about Funguys down the street, too.

I can’t wait to see what kind of space Ponysaraus snags here. Their Durham vibe is all geared towards outside chillin so it’ll be interesting to see what they cook up here. They’ve updated their website and it says this about it.

We are expanding – again! Our third location will be a barrel room & restaurant in Raleigh, NC. Located in Raleigh Iron Works, this location will include a sour beer facility with production space for barrel aging, blending, and bottling, as well as a restaurant serving pizza, bar food, and a variety of beers on tap.

I wonder if the pizza at :racehorse: IronWorks will be ‘Pizza Box’ related ?

This seems to be an appropriate quick video on the topic of entertainment districts and suggests to me to that Raleigh Iron Works will not replace downtown’s party scene or North Hills’ family scene, rather create an additional scene for those who’ve graduated from the party-til-you-puke party scene of Glenwood South but also don’t want a family oriented scene.
This would seem to align with the narrative by the creator that the city should have a bunch of different scenes scattered around the city.

Ok, while I really do agree with this guy’s assessment, he uses two cities that are known for their downtown building breezeway connectivity because of the really crappy winter weather. And criticizing because they don’t have good outdoor space. There are probably lots of other examples between St. Paul and Minneapolis with the same scenario. I also know some nice outdoor areas around there but I bet they wish they were enclosed 8 months out of the year.

And then compares to Rome?? Sorry, hard to compare those cities and how they’ve adapted to what is essentially outdoor entertainment.
