Food Halls and Grocery Stores in downtown Raleigh

They also reference these plans specifically, which is good news. I’m curious what the “future industrial artifact” is that looks like a bridge connecting the two upper floors.

It’s a piece of the crane used during construction, permanently placed there just for us!

from years ago i remember a tasca brava tapas place at sutton square. i liked them. is there any tapas downtown now or nearby? seems like a good lunch option or after bar food option.

Barcelona wine bar has tapas and is very tasty. I’m not sure that Vidrio is fully “tapas,” but it is Mediterranean and has a lot of small and shareable plates (that are delicious).

Tasca Brava was awesome - catered our wedding actually - miss those folks.
Barcelona and Vidrio do a good job but, Mateo over in Durham is probably the current best at this game in the area.

I’ve only been once and while I liked Barcelona, I didn’t think it was anything special. Especially after going to Vidrio, especially especially after trying Mateo, and no contest if you do Curate in Asheville.

My wife and I love tapas style anything and it’s even better if we have a good group. We did Vidrio with 6 and almost tried half the menu. That was a fun night.

Have been to Curate, definitely enjoyed.
Looking forward to trying their new wine bar, la Bodega this weekend…!
Would love a wine bar / pinxchos-type place around town that’s more like the San-Sebastian style hole in the walls or Quimet y Quimet in Barcelona(the city) not the chain ,

my god… possibly the best food I’ve ever eaten in my LIFE.

We need to keep a lists of places the community recommends when the rest of us travel. My wife is dead set on us going to Barcelona in the next 18 months, so I will definitely jot this down someplace that I will not remember when its time to go to Spain, lol.

Can go wrong with exploring around all of Catalunya. Costa Brava is really pretty like Tossa de Mar.

Perhaps if you make it a ‘food inspiration from other cities thread’, you could house it / find it here…?

Vidrio is hit or miss for us. Love Barcelona but you’re right, they’re not exceptional or stand out. Mateo was really good the one time I went, and I need to go back. But Curate… I could live in their restaurant.

Going there in September. So I should add this to my list?

@pBeez y’all can join us

Its a bridge that would have some seating. At least that was what they were talking about right before they first opened and i got a tour.

Whoa just saw this today. Looks like Locals is moving out of Transfer food hall.

A few thoughts! First, what do they mean “across town to East Raleigh” - Transfer Co. is IN East Raleigh, no?? Do they just mean FURTHER east? If so, could be risky. The further East you go from downtown, the less dense/developed it is, and the less “Stuff” there is, so this will most DEFINITELY not get the same foot traffic they get at Transfer. That said, my second thought is simply DAMN! Locals is one of the best things Transfer Co. has to offer, and they will have to REALLY be thoughtful about what they choose to replace it, as it was quite a draw (for me, at least) to the food hall.

“…This move will bring local seafood to customers in Northeast Raleigh and Knighdale…”
Hmmmm…sounds like out New Bern…
Easy to understand the ownership play. Probs tough decision to leave Transfer but, if you’re making plans for 10+ years or more then owning is better than renting and pushing your chips towards TOD development is a good play ( if in fact it’s out NB way…)

oh BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. BAD move to completely exit Transfer Co… wonder why they wouldn’t consider keeping the restaurant there, and just doing this as a market???

@Jake Yeah @NoRaAintAllBad beat me to it, this struck me as New Bern Ave kind of way…interesting move hope it works out for them. Feel like whoever takes their spot in Transfer will have one of the prime spots in there.

I’ll probably get some hates with this – but I can deal…

If this also means that Locals is going to stop managing the bar at Transfer then I will probably start going back.

The last time I was there (I am 99% it was newly under Locals management) they were asking 7 or 8 dollars for a draft Modelo. That price for a quality craft beer – fine. But a mass produced mexican lager*? I call BS!

*I happen to like a good cold (cheap) Modelo
