Future of Glenwood South

There’s already one on Hillsborough St., a little over a mile away. I doubt that will happen on Glenwood.

Hopefully someone makes a play at the old 518 West/Google Fiber space now that Google is no longer there.

Target on Hillsborough is targeted at State students. So one a mile or so away targeted at general public my not be a bad idea.

Well, I am just going by what they have done in other markets, and I know that they have 1 of them in South Beach in Miami Beach, and there are way more people there than we have in downtown Raleigh and the NC State area on a daily basis.

Agreed. Something just like that would be great. And would def help keep foot traffic throughout the day.

I think overall this touches on an issue that has come up several times before - the need for a real shopping district in DTR. Smaller versions of big boxes, some national names, and a majority of local stores in a concentrated area or street would be a great addition. Landing IKEA’s urban footprint outlet would be a giant score, and a destination that would bring traffic that one would hope to see overflow into the surrounding area.

Sign me up for that urban model Ikea every day of the week.

Those rental cargo bikes you mentioned the other day would be particularly useful for that store, lol.
I wonder if Costco has a small urban format, lol. Buy in bulk-ette, or bulk-lite?

Those urban IKEA footprints are still in the 10,000 sq ft range IIRC?
Have they opened one in the states yet ?
Would be cool to see one of those - with a healthy local delivery radius…
Part of me feels like this is still something that ends up DTS not DTR

I will have investigate their size and if there is one in the states. The one in Rome sure didn’t feel that big. It was largely homegoods, a small version of their market.

NYC and LA ‘neighborhood’ based ‘planning centers’ opening soon (2022) - 8k to 9k ranges announced

The Costco on Wake Forest Rd. is surprisingly close to downtown. The same is true for the one in Durham to their downtown.

I wonder how large that space is?

31206 sq ft per tax records (I think it’s 210 Fayetteville St)

Looks like construction has started on whatever concept is going into the old NY Bagel & former hair salon place.

Anyone know what this will be?

I’ll give you one guess (at least last I heard)…

Everything on that block except the Rockford it looks like. So is the plan to just demo everything including Tin Roof that just got built? Odd timing, but I’m fine with it.

Also, this was on the screen at the City Council meeting as the hearing was started. Is this a rendering of what they’re planning to build, or something else?
