Always nice to see on a Saturday morning…

No one in custody, club isn’t named. Wonderful.
Given the location, it looks like Cornerstone or those more recent additions across the street by Raleigh Beer Garden?

Looks like the Carter Building has been bought up by an investor. No immediate plans to do a major redevelopment, just improvements to the buildings, and make sure they’ve got spaces leased out.

That building is rough. Can’t imagine current rent can justify price paid.

Northpond / Loden is the same group behind 401 Hills rezoning, I think.
South Hills and Gateway as well…

Love that their focus is on retail here!!!

I haven’t been there in a while, but the Carter Building is one of the vanishingly few spaces in downtown with what I’d consider entry level artist studios and micro retail spaces.

It definitely could use some work, and I have opinions about how they could have done things better, but I’d hate to lose the concentration of small studios and retail spaces. It’s almost like a food hall but for artists and other micro retail businesses, something I think downtown needs more of.

Interesting timing with the sale of the Carter Building as it appears there is a new mural going up as we speak on the south face:

(Zoomed in as far as I could, sorry)

Walked by later. I think it’s done?

For the 16 years I’ve lived in Raleigh I always wondered why this building full of artist studios wasn’t covered in murals. I’m glad to see one there!

Another big city angle.

Meanwhile, they’ve deferred making a decision on the ā€œspite houseā€ assemblage at Boylan / Jones until 11/8

Last Wire Service update of the day!

The rezoning request of the NW corner of Boylan / Jones was deemed incomplete, so they’ll need to come back with more info

PC again defers the spite house assemblage rezoning at Boylan / Jones to 11/22

Looks like updates are already being made at the former C. Grace / Empress Room. Wonder which Glenwood bar owner is taking over :upside_down_face:

I could tell you but not sure I have ā€œpermissionā€?

The names will not stay. Upstairs will be a tequila bar and the patio out back of what was C.Grace will be opened up. At least that was the plan a month or go last I talked to them. I’ll inquire about an opening date and see if I can share.

But will the cat mural remain? :heart_eyes_cat:

From what I’m told, yes it will!

…but sounds like no jazz/live music incorporated in the new plans. Shame!
