Future of Glenwood South

Aren’t a lot of the bars going to be closing soon due to all the new developments? Maybe that will help class the area up?

The Cornerstone complex is set to close in a few weeks, and that will definitely have an impact.

Hmm. Where will the savage drinking crowd go instead? They certainly aren’t going to just start house partying when they are so used to ripping shots at the bar.

Since most of the party crowd on Glenwood arrives by car from outside the neighborhood, I suppose the possibilities are endless.

I suppose that’s why the ownership bought Snoopy’s and created the Avenue at the other end of the street.

Avenue. Avenue. Avenue and onto the next pop-over bar…
In between visits to the Village…and not the artist formerly known as Cameron (district ) version

That some NIMBYganda

And neighbors NIMBYs will cal the cops and stop it. They don’t want any fun.

Going back to the Glenwood South crime data topic here at year’s end, it looks like 2022 clocked in with the most incidents per year recently. Take it for what it’s worth. Personally, an increase of 42 across the most common incidents for an entire year doesn’t seem bad at all but at the same time, I’m not out there that often to be honest. I guess the trend is the more concerning point.

Reminder, I’ve been tracking the daily incidents on this page here: Glenwood South Data

While the assault, larceny, and weapons violations are certainly alarming, I don’t think that one can look at this data in a vacuum. 20 and 21 were clearly pandemic years that also brought more people to the neighborhood full time in new housing, and the district is clearly busy/active beyond belief.
I find it interesting that drugs and drug violations are declining, and I wonder if this is due to relaxed enforcement on marijuana.

Interesting. Would love to see this with a neighborhood population overlay. The violent charges are concerning, but some of this is to be expected with more full-time residents.

UPDATE. I had to tweak the project a bit since we’re in a new year. When you zoom out and look at every incident type that RPD tracks, the totals are BELOW the 2019 incident count. Chart and full breakdown below. Again, trending upward but not sure there’s major need for concern. Just depends on the type of crimes you want to include in your analysis.

This is now a much different graph. If you take out 2020 due to lockdowns, there seems to be a more stable story emerging since 2017. Still, when you look at the associated breakdown chart, weapons and larceny still jump out, while assault seems to be more stable over time.

Speaking of the future of Glenwood South, can anyone confirm whether or not Cornerstone actually had their finale on New Year’s Eve?

Not sure, but we should see “Split” (former C.Grace/Empress Room) open in the next few weeks. They were originally expecting to be open for NYE.

To add to that, not sure if this has been covered yet, but Industry has now replaced Glenwood Social Club at 510 Glenwood. Soft open this past week, I believe.

I just saw that yesterday walking by and was going to post something but decided I had posted enough yesterday, then we got to The Willard and I posted more. :man_facepalming:t3:

It’s interesting that they are marketing themselves as the place that supports those who work in the service industry. Does anyone know who this Kenner Group is? I’ve never heard of them.

I’ve lost track how many themes they’re tried there. Off the top of my head in college I remember it being a salsa-y kind place, then a BBQ place, the ‘social club’, and now this latest attempt. Not sure why it’s continuously going under as it has a prime spot on Glenwood?

Maybe whenever the Madison takes off it’ll help provide more residents/foot traffic their way? :person_shrugging:

And Krave, and another spot I can’t recall the name of…

I miss Red Room. They were a Rocky Top brand. I still have a copy of their drink menu in my kitchen library.

Looks like they didn’t make much changes to the concept other than a little rebrand.

I’ll give this place 12-24 months of survival.
