Probably too short notice for the playoffs, but hopefully they will find a new business downtown to partner with on watch parties. I was never that impressed with Ale House. They had issues every time I went.
I thought all the Raleigh area Ale Houses basically hosted unofficial watch parties? I worked at the one in Garner when I was younger and it always got absolutely slammed for Canes games (especially in the playoffs).
Did the one on Glenwood have raffles and stuff for jerseys and other merch? One of my friends here in Charlotte is a big Canes fan, and Wooden Robot Brewing hosts watch parties with jersey/merch giveaways etc. We caught a couple of the playoff games there last year but never won any of the raffles lol.
That’s obviously an alien abduction trap, with the big UFO ready to take you away.
While I think everyone on here wishes this was downtown or adjacent, I will admit that having all of this sports entertainment stuff together in a comprehensive district will be pretty nice. Especially if they can get some transit options figured out.
And you can walk to it!
It’s true! The one area in the world I’d rather walk to than drive! Lol
They should bring back the street closure watch parties.
It’s essentially the exact same way Philly does it - 3 HUGE stadiums all connected by conjoined (and gigantic) parking lots just outside the main downtown area. I saw Radiohead’s (as of today) final 2 shows there and waiting in line outside the arena (Flyers/76ers) we got a full view of the Philly skyline - that’s the main thing Raleigh’s arena district would be missing, of course.
That’s a solid benchmark. The addition of Xfinity Live really brings that complex together. That said, it’s still a bit of a surface lot hellscape. The NRG Station connectivity to the SEPTA is the secret sauce.
I agree. I think there are much better spots to host large watch parties (the blocked off Glenwood outdoor watch parties in 2019 were immaculate) in Raleigh than Ale House, but as of now, the Canes have a partnership with them for now. Eventually, i hope they open up the arena to watch parties, as they should. But having a spot for watch parties dt as a backup during events at Lenovo (real ones still call it Rbc), would be sick too. Maybe redhat or block off Fayetteville street with a giant projector screen?
Theres watch parties all around town during playoffs, but the Canes official watch parties, as advertised by the team, will be at the Cary CAH.
The city has a big projector screen that they bought for events like this IIRC. Have used it in City Plaza and in Moore Square. Definitely would be good to see the City try to do something like that to activate downtown and/or Glenwood for Canes playoff games.
The 2019 watch parties where they shut down the streets around Carolina Ale House were great. They haven’t been at that same scale since Covid though.
Oh it feels like a WASTELAND of blacktop lmaooo… the parking deck(s) at ̶P̶N̶C̶ Lenovo will help mitigate that, here.
Looks like there’s some machinery and work being done inside the former Google Fiber / brick building.
I miss Radiohead touring.
(((Keep your eyes and ears low… they’re planning a return )))
They can only host one or two official public watch parties per series due to NHL rules if I recall. TV partners want you sitting down and listening to ads.
TBJ reporting that the Johnson St Yacht Club is for sale. The slide is included.
Could I buy just the slide?
Looks like this space has turned into another bar/lounge called “West Wood Raleigh”. Their soft opening is tonight & tomorrow.
Supposedly it’s for the more mature crowd. Ages 23+
