This may have been an option for a while now but I just discovered it myself. If you’re interested in securing your online identity as much as possible, always enable MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) aka TFA/OTP/etc. At some point in the past the forum upgrades enabled PassKeys which I love as it makes the login more secure and if you have a password manager like 1Password (many others support PassKeys as well), it’s easy to set up and manage. Just calling this out in case there are other members that didn’t know PassKeys are an option. Go to your user preferences and you should see the option to set it up.
Could we consider adding a “+1” reaction? If something needs to be removed, I’d vote for the Raleigh flag (nothing personal) or whichever one has the lowest utilization. I think +1 is different from thumbs up or the heart, and it’s commonly used on slack.
So I agree with this when first reading your suggestion but then when looking into it, the software considers the thumbs up reaction as the +1 reaction. So aren’t these the same? ![]()
Yeah I was about to say, on Slack if you do :+1: it actually replaces it with
. Same here too.
Maybe they were thinking of Google+? I think they started the literal “+1” concept and it still does have its adherents.
I think the
is doing the job fine.
Yeah if anything, I’d prefer a thumbs down emoji instead of the Raleigh flag - I personally dislike using the eyeroll emoji, but right now it’s the only one that is somewhat in line with a “disagreement” reaction.
I’d be interested to see how that goes. Done and done.
I like this idea too. I think a thumbs down option would allow people to share their disinterest without having to type out a less than kind reply ![]()
I got a new iPhone with iOS 26 and Apple Intelligence and love using the new Siri-suggested grammatical and rewarding recommendations. However, it seems to confuse the reply function on here. I’m not sure if it’s an iOS 26 thing or specifically an Apple Intelligence thing, but typing and posting hasn’t run smoothly since upgrading. Also I’m on safari if that helps*
I ran updates this weekend and maybe it’s loading incorrectly? Can you do the classic “reload cache” or try to log out and log back in first? Everything is up-to-date on my end but I’ll try this on an iOS device a little later.
Mobile Web rich text input is notoriously fickle among web developers. Wouldn’t be surprised if Apple did something slightly esoteric that Discourse doesn’t support with their input field.
Can you try and toggle the new Markdown switch in the upper left corner? That might change things up to, I believe, how it used to be on Discourse and it may be more compatible for you.
Also, you could try trading up for an Android or a Windows-based PC. I have both and they’re working just fine here.

Apple has too many people assigned to iOS with too few good ideas for them to work on. Of course, the same could be said of Microsoft and Windows.

For anyone who still follows the blog, I, me, single-handedly made it snow today to celebrate the blog’s 19th birthday! You’re welcome! ![]()
I found some snow photos from 2009 while looking back in the archives for the birthday post and I found this gem. Enjoy the snow! (or whatever does actually fall today)

The NCModernist Architecture Movie Series continues at the much-loved Rialto Theatre, Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh NC, sponsored by Matt Griffith and Zach Hoffman at in situ studio. Featuring Prickly Mountain and a Q&A afterwards with producer Allie Rood.
Here is another movie announcement from the NCModernist folks. If most of you get this newsletter, just speak up and I won’t bother posting these. But till then, just trying to get the word out.
Tuesday, March 3 - The NCModernist Architecture Movie Series continues at the much-loved Rialto Theatre, Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh NC, with Googie (2026). Get advance tickets here.
Googie architecture was one of the most visually exciting and culturally formative design movements of the mid-20th century, yet it remains one of the least understood. Coffee shops, bowling alleys, car washes, banks, and even churches became architectural icons designed not just for function, but to catch the eye of people cruising by in their cars. Googie spread beyond Southern California, shaping skylines and streetscapes across the United States. Though many original structures have been demolished, a passionate movement has emerged to preserve what remains. Q&A afterwards with producer Jake Gorst. Sponsored by Matt Griffith and Zach Hoffman at in situ studio.
