That was a good, informative read - if a bit long, lol. It did time perfectly with my lunch. Thanks for the link @niko

As a kid, I used to play soccer there in the mid 70s.

Same, back before they moved most games to Mini City, lol.

Mini City fields had just been mothballed when I moved here in 87. Perry Creek took over soon after.

One of my favorite historical gems in DTR. I found it years ago by accident.

From: Olde Raleigh NC

Norfolk Southern locomotive and an automobile cross paths just south of Boylan Heights c. 1946.

The trestle seen here was constructed in 1936 and is extant. It spans present-day Western Boulevard near West Cabarrus Street.

The automobile is seen traveling northwest on what was then Boylan Drive.

Super cool. Is this railroad line still used?

Twice a week. It’s the original Norfolk Southern NS line from Raleigh cutting through Dix Park to Varina going on to Fayetteville.

Can anyone explain this? It’s over off West Street, north of Peace.

It beats the hell out of me.
The funny thing is that I’ve walked that route many times and I don’t recall seeing it. I wonder if it was previously overgrown?

Old bus stop? Isn’t there a little bridge over the creek to the right of it/this pic?

We’ve walked by that a half dozen times and wondered the same. There’s a bridge around that same area as well that’s roped off. Seems that area used to be more vibrant back in the day.

It’s a defunct mini-bike pump station. All that remains is the slab

It’s looked like that since 2007, per Google Street view
