If we get a downtown stadium, the hotel block, and conferences come back to pre-pandemic levels along with all the other developments couldn’t you argue that there’s a good mix?
Hard for me to get a gauge on it since I really didn’t see Raleigh pre covid. I’m just still taken away at how surprisingly lively Raleigh is on the weekends at street level.
Another Texas food chain coming to Raleigh. Abu Omar Halal Food Truck will be stationed next to the McDonald’s on Peace Street most afternoons and evenings.
Libations 317 cocktail bar and bistro will take over the former “The Borough” location at the corner of the Dawson Condos. Interesting this person is a Johnson & Wales University graduate. We really should have a culinary art institute here in Raleigh.
The rumor is that he’s going to eventually try to reopen it as the landmark name, but under his ownership. I don’t believe they have a kitchen, so that limits future options.
Traditionally it is just the weekdays when RTP is buzzing and full of life. That is about to change this weekend with the opening of the much-anticipated Boxyard RTP this Saturday, June 5th. The new dining spots debuting this weekend are Lawrence Barbecue and Buzzy Bakes (bake shop) along with retailers Medicine Mama’s Farmacy and Thirteen West. The doors officially open at 11 a.m. It has been a long time coming. Look for Beyu Caffe, Bulkogi, Carrburritos, Fullsteam Brewery, Lagoon Bar, Meat & Graze, RTP Uncorked and Wonderpuff to be added in the coming months.
The old blue flame tattoo building on Peace st is now a huge tobacco shop. Complete with an insane LED roof line and bright signs. Was excited when I saw renovations happening, but what a disappointment the results are.
Late to this party… but Glenwood is so congested on weekend nights that it’s not like anyone in a car can actually get anywhere… this idea has my stamp of approval.
And on top of that if I’m not mistaken every parking deck in the area has their entrance on the side roads so you’re not really messing that up either.
They currently have the “no left turns 10p - 3a” but the right turns cause just as much havoc because of the number of peds.
If they don’t want to close the road, a ped scramble exclusive phase on weekend nights could help make things flow better. But will late night drunk folks even follow the walk hand
