Looks like the recently opened Heights House Hotel will now be opening up a bar. Opening up August 22nd. This could be a pretty cool spot to grab a cocktail!

Looks like Solas is going to be a new concept. Old branding just came down today I believe. Looks like they have a sign up with “High Garden”.

Crossing my fingers for a CBD/Delta-8 smoke lounge in this spot lmao

…But seriously though that’s truly the only possible upgrade

I hope it’s game of thrones themed lol

My reservation at Garland for Aug 7 was canceled as they close next week to “re-evaluate their operations due to the growing COVID spike.”

Jesus they JUST reopened… I swear it’s like some businesses want an excuse to not survive.

Our second choice was Death & Taxes but they’re closed Aug 1-10 “on vacation”…makes me wonder if they will just stay closed. I can’t really sympathize with businesses that voluntarily close right now.

Never know what’s going on at home if it’s family run. They could have immune compromised family members. I know folks here don’t really care about it anymore but the fact is, this delta variant is insane.

You’re right. Restaurants wouldn’t have to resort to closing if most people would just get vaccinated.

I really (REALLY) don’t want to hijack this thread with more covid/vaccination debate, so I’ll keep this restaurant focused. They have the right to run their business as they see fit, and I don’t know what is going on behind the scenes. I just see many scenarios where they could keep their restaurant open if they wanted to: vaccinated all staff (hopefully already done), require proof of vaccination from all patrons, require masks if that makes them feel better, etc. The delta variant is concerning overall but the vast, vast majority of people getting seriously ill are people who have chosen not to get vaccinated (or got the barely effective J&J one, or in a few cases have immune issues that meant they didn’t get an effective immune response from vaccination). That’s not on everyone else to protect them when they don’t want to protect themselves.

I agree with you 100%. I don’t think we’ll see restaurants that are more than like family owned shutting down. Just wanted to bring up that we have to remember that some situations may be different.

No, absolutely. Good to remember and keep in mind. I just want these small local restaurants to keep going so they make it! Otherwise it’s just another advantage for the big chains.

I get the sentiment here and, agree to some point since I also wanted to keep a reservation here in this same time period BUT…with limited staff and everything swirling right now, I guess I get it.
For the AC group and others taking summer break - Boulted did last week - well, they’ve sorta done that in ‘normal’ times, short-staffed and burning hot to hang in there and August is not exactly DTR heyday season even in the best of realities…
It’s going to be more back-sliding in the short term. Period.
And, if reason truly doesn’t win out — then it’s gonna be a lot worse than that.

It may be that simple in your world, but unfortunately it’s not in reality
