Apparently the Farmers’ Market restaurant has been selling Chinese fish as local NC… Ya know, to keep their (unsuspecting) customers happy during these trying times.

Note that Locals Seafood is a completely different place and not doing this.

Frankly I’d never go back again, but I haven’t been for the first time yet.:man_shrugging:

I honestly wouldn’t have minded as long as they were honest about that, and if they didn’t pretend their fish was local. But…

Yeah, how’s that for a good first impression…

Feels like an episode of Kitchen Nightmares.

I’m always skeptical when restaurants claim seafood is local and I just assume it isn’t. There’s another WRAL article showing that even some Raleigh area fish markets lie about the fish being local, although “Locals” seems to be the real deal.

Not being local is one thing, but having it come from the opposite side of the world is more than just a stretch.

Noticed some bad/boring/disappointing news yesterday, as the whitebread basic-fication of Hillsborough St continues … The former cupcake/frozen yogurt place on the corner RIGHT down the street from Global Village Coffee has a “Coming Soon” sign up… for a Starbucks :rage:  :man_facepalming:

And Hillsborough St. has now come full circle. Remember when this used to be a starbucks?

Was it? lol, shows how long I’ve been gone. That was Baxley’s forever. My dad ate lunch there pretty much everyday for 20 years. Ah, where are the snows of yesteryear?

It was while I was in college…which was like 15 years ago.

Ha, thanks for pointing that out. 15 yrs ago I was only 40. Lordy, what a way to start my day. :man_white_haired:
Your point is well taken though, Starbucks was here, then gone and now coming back. I think it was probably inevitable with demographics of that stretch of Hillsboro.

Across the street from the famous Sagrada Familia in Bacelona has:

Starbucks

Ben & Jerry’s.

Five Guys

McDonald’s

Taco Bell

Burger King

We can only hope to be that world class. :sunglasses:

Can’t imagine living somewhere with so much delicious food and going to any of those… Well, maybe Ben and Jerry’s because I really do love their ice cream, but still…

Btw so jealous of your trip. It looks absolutely amazing!

Oh, I totally remember that being the original Starbucks. I remember thinking how fancy it was when it opened. It was a really big deal.
It’s funny that this conversation is happening right now. Last weekend on my early evening walk, I walked passed both the former cupcake place and the original Starbucks location and had the very same thoughts that are being discussed here! LOL

These are not my pictures, but someone posted pictures of the new covered porch for Trophy on Wilmington St. If you’re familiar with going outside on this porch during the blazing summer, it wasn’t easy.

Glad to see this spot endure AND get a distillery !

They also opened one on 9th street in Durham last month (right next to a local coffee shop, and across from another Starbucks inside the Harris Teeter). Wonder if they’re pushing some kind of corporate strategy to build credibility among college students.

I don’t know but I truly don’t understand the success of Starbucks. I get that people like what they can expect, i.e. they always know what they’re getting at any Starbucks anywhere they order it. But what they’re getting is seriously bland, and usually sickenly sugary coffee - and it’s not any more affordable than any actually decent small/locally owned coffee place … I am just hoping that Global Village literally 3 stores down from this new Hillsborough St Starbucks will get even more business in protest.

People that go there are not going for coffee. They go for the BS fufu crap and to be seen standing in a long line. Suck fest at its finest.
