I didn’t realize that you needed a membership to go there. It’s never stopped me before.
Yeah sames, been there dozens of times and no one’s asked me for any sort of membership.
Y’all haven’t been “In” in.
‘Historically’, any place in NC serving spirits with no kitchen / food is a membership club.
Some places seem to allow lots of ‘guests’ at times while others are much more strict in following the (dumb blue laws!) rules and definitely noticed that it’s not as much of a focus around town past 20 months. Also seems to depend on the night of the week - greater weekend focus, lesser weekday.
Hopefully no one from the ABC board is active in the community LoLs…
Recently wanted to check out a spot in ILM that was a speakeasy, purported to be the ‘best in town’ -
$24 annual membership / per person for entry.
Also encountered another off the beaten path spot with good drinks that was $5 / per person annual.
In both cases, it seemed the intent was to somewhat offset keeping the occupancy at tolerable noise / spacing levels. I guess you could think of it as a cover charge so you can talk to your party while enjoying drinks.
I’m betting things get a bit more stringent again in RAL as we approach the ‘other side’…
Learning all sorts of fun factoids this morning. Also keeping with the ‘Made in DTR’ theme, Dram’s new spot in Charlotte (Vantage South End) I believe is right near the Charlotte Beer Garden too.
That’s beginning to sound like there’s going to be an entire “Made in DTR” district in Charlotte USA.
Was that Blind Elephant? Love that place.
Yep, $5 entry to the alleyway Elephant.
I’d go back. hopefully this year…
RE: the shipping container building that was a temporary Peace Apartments leasing office. Just had a thought - would this not be the perfect addition to the outdoor area of those warehouses across Cabarrus/Clancy & Theys plot that Kane Realty was planning on turning into a multi-vendor/event space?? Imagine the warehouses reno’d to include a few retail/restaurant spaces, with the big outdoor area used for seating, and this already-made shipping container building on the opposite end facing the warehouses with a full bar and/or coffee concept.
Also went to End of Days Distillery in ILM the same trip and they were converting a shipping container into a kitchen to expand their offerings. Cool spot in an old Quonset Hut…!
Haven’t been there, I’ll be sure to check it out next time we head that way!
Hold that thought. May have some info on this.
I was hoping for something more exciting/concrete. Will keep an eye on it.
Clancy still owns the property, and likely won’t sell until the cell tower lease is up (maybe 8 years left?). Kane has been hinting that they are still interested/there is still interest in doing something to bridge that gap, but who knows what it is at the moment.
Designed for Joy just opened up in one of the building sections, but that’s about it so far.
Biz Journal reporting that Flyin’ Mayan has relocated to Morrisville. Another Fayetteville St. white elephant.
Tried it with the family earlier this year, very bland. Wasn’t shocked to see they went out of business and that it was the same people that owned the burrito place near Lynwood, also mediocre food.
And they never last more than a few months. What’s with that??
I’m no expert as I rarely venture to Fayetteville Street, which I believe is indicative of the problem. Whenever I spend time on Fayetteville Street it feels like a dead zone. They’re really needs to be a Fayetteville revitalization
