Images of the unused bar area:
WOW!! How has that been tucked down there, ignored, for decades?
That’s crazy.
Thanks @Samuel for the photos!!
I’m with you. I had NO idea at all. I started going to Mitch’s before many in the community were born. It was one of my favorite places while attending State. They used to have a hot dog and potato chips meal for like $1.75.
I’m sorry if I made you feel old on the other post. Lol!
I’ve actually never been, but if they’re reopening some and eventually all of this place, I’m totally recommending this for a meetup.
Mitch’s is a REALLY special place, and I am so very happy that it’s going to live on!
Maybe a future meet up at Mitch’s for @GucciLittlePig ?
I don’t remember volunteering for that
Meetup for the uninitiated (like me) at Mitch’s Tavern if it’s reopened. Backup plan, we’re all coming to your home.
Wish I could share Insta stories on here. But they’re pouring concrete at the future 321 Coffee Shop at Bloc 83. Nice to see them moving on the project!
the stairs were tricky
Lots of African coffee please, so good!
Sounds like this place is going to be a tight spot
So whats the over/under on how long it will be before some developer from Texas gets their grimy hands on the property and builds some awful BS?
…what?
Is there some backstory to this I’m missing?
We have to get that building historic status. Even the exterior is iconic on Hillsborough Street. Google Maps
No backstory, just taking bets. I only bet on sure things btw…
Back in the 80’s, Mitch would hang out downstairs in the unused section, and spy on the bartenders with the upstairs camera he installed.
I always heard it was nice in there. Crazy that its been unused for over 4 decades.
