General Retail/Restaurant News

Let’s not generalize here. Please recognize our tiny perception of a place on a specific time and day is not representative of the whole.

Taz’s is open from 6am to midnight every day, 2am on weekends. Bars have the same late hours and they have their own problems on occasion.

Plus wouldn’t you need to hang out there everyday to even know this? Let’s take it into context please.

I do not think I’m generalizing when it is a daily occurrence. One of the reasons I moved , and 2 of my neighbors now have moved is somewhat related to these types of incidents. My wife has been really harassed by the congregation that gathers at both DGX and Taz’s. Does not happen at other places. So yes I’m singling convenient stores out. Eliminate these places and go to Publix. Cheaper and better for everyone.

I bet I pick any random day and hang out at Taz’s and there isn’t drama that involves law enforcement. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, but I am saying you’re generalizing based in select personal experiences.

Same. I pass by it almost every day and have been for years and haven’t had any negative experiences. Including late last night after a concert. My gf has never been harassed either. And my neighborhood friends (and we live about the same distance as Boltman used to) love to drop by there after dinner or concerts to pickup smokes or beer to grab on their walk home. Getting in their car to go to a grocery store doesn’t make sense in those situations, nor do they want to. It’s also not healthy, sustainable way for communities to be built. My friends in Chatham already can’t stand the traffic whereas I never have to deal with it since I live and work downtown. Different strokes.

Have you… been to any other city of similar or larger size in the United States besides Raleigh? Convenience stores/bodegas are not going anywhere… lmao

I work the weekend closing shifts at Raleigh Times and have never had a bad experience. Taz’s is a lifesaver for many of us at the restaurant and for the Downtown community as a whole. Sorry that your perception is so skewed.

Lived downtown in much bigger cities. Problem is that Raleigh downtown is so small that it is not spread out enough to dissipate.

This statement makes no sense.

Taco Roos on New Bern is coming along. I’m assuming these are the company colors.

First Watch at Bloc[83] looks very close to opening. Furniture, countertops, POSI systems, and lighting are installed and new signage was put up today.

The section of Hillsborough and Glenwood filled with restaurants and people sitting outside eating, walking around, also with the Avenue packed full of people is going to be really nice to see.

YES! I love signage day.

Reminds me - anyone hear any updates about the walk-up window sandwich shop that’s supposed to be going into the old Snoopy’s there???

I occasionally see 1 or 2 workers causally working in the kitchen area, but nothing seems to be urgent. So who knows, but I was under the impression they were repurposing Snoopy’s kitchen which shouldn’t be a huge undertaking.
