Fake plant walls and fake neon word lights: Name a more iconic duo.

…are those cheap Ikea chandeliers spray painted black?

Fake plants and ivy plague Raleigh. It drives me up a wall. Nothing makes a place look more cheaper.

Idk but that’s definitely a $350 Wayfair couch.

The “fern bar” lives on: Fern bar - Wikipedia

Another long time restaurant is closing today. Armadillo Grill in Glenwood South. I remember when it opened 22 years ago, and while we have other Tex mex that has surpassed it in quality, I still enjoyed stopping in every once in a while.

Aw, I liked it as a quick burrito stop. Nothing special, but did the job. Hope the replacement is fun.

I went in there 10 years ago and the service was laughably poor, the food mediocre, and the bathrooms gross. I took a picture and put it with my negative review. Glad I finally got em.

Kidding, but I don’t feel like this is a great loss. Seems more like a nostalgia act from early 2000s Raleigh that didn’t do anything to update with the times.

Hope we get another food concept here vs another bar.

I actually went here often enough since I work pretty close by. Steak burrito was my go-to, and pretty much the only thing I got. That said, there are a lot of places close by that I’d imagine they kept losing business to. Every time I went in around lunch time, it was noticeably slow compared to a lot of other places.

This kind of restaurant isn’t for your kind. Appreciate AG for what it is, and it’s a treasure, and a loss IMO. I’m sad from afar.

You mean local residents?

You know the closed because they didn’t have your business anymore. That’s what was keeping them afloat. Sad.

I just went last weekend! The Chicken Taco Dillo deal was my go-to! Many young nights after bar hoping spent in there!

Man what a surprise, I just ate there a couple days ago, and not one employee mentioned anything. It’s a shame I can’t even eat there again.

I’ve been eating here roughly once a month for the past 20 years, and several times a week when I lived on Glenwood south. At one point they were open until 3am on the weekends.

Not everything needs to be Ruth Chris, and Amaradillo was exactly what I wanted for the price. The soft taco shells were made fresh for each order in their little rotating machine.

Is a “soft taco shell” just a tortilla?

I hope the replacement is a new 20+ story tower, tbh. Prime location wasted with a 1-story building, these days.

Correct, its this machine they use.

Nothing should be Ruth’s Chris…

The Carrboro one still exists if people ever get nostalgic. The food was mid but it was fast and cheap (if you ordered the right things) so there was a niche.
