What an amazing episode for the holiday.
Very excited to regularly frequent this location for Neuse River!

The ramen location in the former Darby space will be called Daijoubu. Planning a late summer opening. Beginning with lunch service, but plans to extend that to dinner as well.
I’ve never been - was it any good?
Yeah I really liked it when I went once or twice many years ago. I kept meaning to go back. I guess it’s my fault they’re closing.
Hopefully it doesn’t become another trashy bar.
I can’t help but wonder if all of the bar scene is contributing to the failure of the restaurants? I know a lot of folks who won’t come to the district now because of the reputation caused by the late night scene on weekends.
I just saw that Brewery Bhavana is opening a location in Fenton, another downtown export.
Yeah this had been announced previously but not till 2025. Booo
Still waiting on Scott Crawford to open his steakhouse there. Supposedly “fall”
It’s not just the reputation anymore. The city’s idea to block every intersection with police cruisers every Friday and Saturday night is having unintended side effects. Imagine leaving after dining in any Glenwood restaurant on those evenings and stepping out into what appears to be an ongoing terrorist attack.
I can finally stop working on my downtown putt putt idea. Putt putt bar coming to Glenwood South behind the Beer Garden: “Hop Shots” (not sure I understand the name?)
- 18 holes of Putt-Putt
- Table tennis, foosball, cornhole
- 2 bars
Oh, I am well aware of what they are doing because the city is pushing that traffic to my building a block west.
They don’t shut down the streets until 11pm
So, I went back to La Farm and picked up a white chocolate mini baguette per the recommendation that I received here in the community. I just finished it with my morning coffee. Here’s my take.
I liked the texture and softness of the interior juxtaposed with the somewhat crispier crust, and the flavor was nice. Frankly, it is larger than needed and it would be fine to split with someone. Would I get it again? I probably will. However, I think that I still prefer the Morning Bun from Bolted, especially if I can get one that is slightly under-cooked and gooeyer.
Now THERE’S a take I’ve never heard! haha - glad you enjoyed, it’s definitely a once-in-a-while treat.
Even people who hate the Glenwood bar scene don’t avoid the restaurants there. Most of the food options aren’t even open by the time the chaos hits.
This is just a single data point, but the last 3 times I went to Plates it was closed during normal business hours. I loved the place - the food and staff were always good - but I stopped thinking about going there because it kept feeling like a waste of time.
We loved Plates and went there regularly. A lot of new restaurants have opened nearby recently, especially brunch places, so I think people were trying the new places (Madre, Press, First Watch) and forgetting Plates.
Also, a ton of 10 year leases were signed in 2014, up for renegotiation and renewal. This is what happened to clouds brewing. I expect we’ll see more closure of older restaurants
