I agree, Wildflour Boston Pizza was excellent, and it was within walking distance of my house.
You almost photographed my family. 1.5 hr wait at press for lunch today. We ended up at State of beer - excellent
Their lack of reservations is absurd. Went recently and had a lot of issues. You can apparently get your food to go and sit at the bar, which had zero wait and a really cool bartender chick. Good food and drinks. I don’t leave negative reviews for new local businesses, but I do send emails to try and help them out. We actually got a $20 gift card and a handwritten apology mailed to us because of their shenanigans. However, they still aren’t doing reservations lol.
There’s Ohio Valley style pizza for anyone that likes their toppings cold instead of cooked.
I used the hype of Press to get an immediate seat at previously packed First Watch. When the diner opens in Smoky Hollow, more demand pressure should be relieved in the market. It just goes to show that there’s been pent up demand for weekend brunch and breakfast places downtown. IMO, the more the merrier!
If it does, it also sucks.
I went for Saturday breakfast maybe a month ago, and while the food was great, the service was definitely SLOW AF. We chalked it up to new opening kinks, but yeah if they simply got their act together with staff and service, they probably wouldn’t have such long wait times to begin with. Seriously, I think it took 10-15mins before our server came back around to take our orders after initially greeting us.
There’s a diner coming to smoky hollow? NICE
Tucker Street diner. They’ve got a placeholder web page. Same folks as Shiny Diner.
In the old J Lights space. It totally makes sense since the kitchen is already there. It should be a light investment, but I hope it looks better than what J Lights put in place. That was a really bland space.
Is the Brass Top what’s under construction in the NW corner space under 400H? They’ve been doing work there for weeks.
Regardless, Brass Tap is a great example of the chain restaurants/retail we need. New-to-market but established and not a solo small business. Obviously I think a mix of all types is best, but I’m focusing on potential NTM chains like Brass Tap because they can afford rent in these new developments. Ideas for developers to reach out to:
- Taste Unlimited (~10 locations in Hampton Roads, I truly believe a Raleigh location would be their top grossing in its first year, please chime in if you know about Taste, it is built for our market I can’t even stand it)
- Nando’s Peri-Peri (many locations in DC, Chicago, VA)
- Dave’s Hot chicken (CA chain already expanding nationwide, NC coming but TBD where, why not DTR)
- Good Stuff Eatery (~10 locations in northern VA/DC)
Taste would absolutely crush it here
Nandos just expanded to Virginia Beach and is moving into Atlanta as well. Feels like a matter of time before Raleigh or Charlotte get one since they would just be filling a gap.
Yafo Kitchen out of Charlotte (same guys as Midwood if I recall) would do very well downtown in my opinion
maybe. i was a year or so ago at the newly reformed pepper distillery in Lexington ky. and the development around the old distillery is very nice…the 53 dollar bourbon bottle lacked some relatable bourbon-ness. i applaud what is happening and it would be a fine mixer…but neat, it was awfully antiseptic tasting.
Had the same experience a month ago for lunch a Monday. Finally when we got attention from someone they thought we were being taken care of by someone else…
The food was good but I didn’t like how noisy the place was indoor (lots of reverb).
Common Market is exactly the type of small, but new to the Raleigh market, chain we need. Awesome news. Burger Bach should also expand to Raleigh in a new development.
Purposely being noisy seems to be the preference these days. Count me among those who’d like to have more places to go out but not have to fight an overly noisy environment.
More good retail coming to Seaboard!
Duckpin bowling and ping pong concept!
