Is anyone even trying to lease the empty storefront/restaurant spaces in the Progress building? They’ve got Mustang House but otherwise that’s a huge deadzone with a lot of potential, frustrating that it seems to be languishing in the basement of Duke’s CrE portfolio
They really just need to renovate the entire way that building hits the ground. It’s so clearly a 70s-riots era fortress that’s scared of the street.
The Instagram post gives the impression they’re an Asheville brewery, but they’re actually just a brewpub chain that happens to have a location in Arden, NC.
Still very happy for anything opening on Fayetteville St
You’re right, they’ve got locations all over the US.

That said, I’m pretty happy that this likely isn’t just going to be a brewery. The Asheville location has some pretty good snacks and food too:
It would be such a homerun renovation to remove those awful awnings, create in reality or the illusion of a 2 story atrium, and a high flying awning projection over that area with minimal columns to open that space up, allow more light into the lower level, and provide outdoor covered dining space.
I’m (unfortunately) old enough to remember when those awful awnings were seen as an improvement to the building! I agree that the experience of that stretch would be vastly improved with a better solution!
Not as exciting but Simons Says Dip This will open in Bloc 83. They have a location in downtown Durham.
The fact that anything is opening at Bloc83 is exciting. There’s too much empty storefront among the 3 buildings.
Yes but as we discussed previously their name hurts our ears
Just catching up on this, but as a vegan I am consistently embarrassed by the names of the restaurants that cater to us. Dirty V is bad, there’s one in New Hope, PA near where I grew up called THE V SPOT, and of course don’t forget the Slutty Vegan chain out of Atlanta. I can’t take my mom to any of these establishments!
Here’s a tweet that sums up the conundrum nicely https://x.com/mikeabrusci/status/1811954645302190218
Watching the Raleigh Design Review Commission. This is what they just shared for the proposed Whataburger elevations and site plan. This is at the NE corner of Wake Forest and E. Six Forks.
It looks like a typical N. Raleigh burger joint with a big parking area, a few trees and a mediocre building. Hope their food is good.
Per the commission, they have to add a shade tree at the south elevation at the outdoor seating area. I’ve only eaten at one at DFW. Their burgers are really large and their prices are decent.
Omg it’s going to be a Whataburger! Hell yes. With Torchy’s around the corner and the vast quantity of newish apartments on the other side, it’ll be like Austin-on-the-Neuse.
Isn’t this just taking over the Applebee’s? I wouldn’t expect anything out of it.
I lived on a combination of Whataburger and Torchy’s when I lived in ATX in my college summers.
You’ve got Whataburger spot on. Good and large at the price point. The Texas toast is a fun secondary option. Much more value for money then paying through the nose for Shake Shack’s marketing and interior design, or getting a full cup of grease with a Five Guys burger.
Hmm, looks exactly like the one they just built in my ville…
I figured since they didn’t want to make any changes when talking to the commission. They even mildly pushed back when asked to plant the shade tree.
