General Retail/Restaurant News

I’m weirdly bummed to hear this. I’ve been hoping for awhile that they’d go for a bigger space with more seating somewhere downtown. Their pizza is world class, but I’d never get it for takeout. For whatever their pizza just doesn’t hit the same after sitting in a box for a 15 minutes. I love eating their pizza fresh out of the oven, it’s a godly experience when dining at their restaurant.

I think this will work out better for you. I imagine that they’re doing this so they can either discontinue or strongly rollback the takeout option on Person Street. It means less people waiting around, faster service for restaurant patrons, less cars blocking up a lane on Person Street.

I agree with you that the restaurant experience is better, and this should make that experience a lot better.

Absolutely crushing to see the post by Raleigh Mag this morning which showed the Capital Creations sign and then read that it wasn’t reopening…honestly the hardest restaurant loss in the Triangle for me. I like Oakwood Pizza Box, I think it’s a smart move to expand and focus more on takeout in the new spot (since their current spot is so tiny)

But still wish it was Capital Creations coming back - or at least something new/exciting moving into the spot…still, good for Oakwood Pizza Box - does anyone know if they’ll have their own delivery drivers at the new spot? Being able to order delivery directly from Capital Creations was awesome

All the news releases state ‘take out only’ prominently, but yeah - delivery would be sweet as would bringing back a couple of those ‘Cap Creations’ as specials…Pesky Chicken anyone, anyone, anyone…? Good for OPB - it’s legit pie. 3 mins in a toaster oven back good as new pie.

I really wish they would re-partition this space. I get why Decree did it, they needed a space for production and displaying their antique presses, and overall, I think the stuff they sold matched the vibe of the space alright. I’m interested to see if/how this dispensary will try to match the vibe and fill the whole space. Maybe we’ll get some cool, artsy paraphernalia to look at in the windows.

Alternatively, I would have loved if this could have been a grocery store a la Fruiterie Milano in Little Italy, Montreal. That space is divided up in much the same way and has a similar aesthetic.

No damn weed store needs THIS much space lmao. They 1000% should break up the space and open multiple smaller-footprint retail spaces.

It must be pretty profitable for them to be able to afford this much space.

I imagine they’re going for foot traffic from Pour House patrons. Lots of shows in there where people are looking to catch a good vibe. Lots of people smoking out front.

Oh weed is extremely profitable. But it also doesn’t require much space. See: Cannapa off Capital Blvd. Awesome dispensary, looks and feels exactly like being inside a legitimate legal dispensary in, say, New York or Michigan.

But it’s one small waiting room, and one small showroom where you actually view and purchase your stuff, then one small backroom for employees and storage. It’s no more than half the size of this storefront - if not smaller.

I think this is the very last thing this block needs.

Medical and recreational marijuana are illegal in NC, correct? So how is a dispersery allowed to operate? Is this just the Delta / Synthetic stuff?

If you told me 15 years ago (when I first moved downtown) that a store where you can buy puppies would be protested out of downtown and a store where you can walk in a buy weed would be opening, I would have been so confused.

I also noticed there is also a CBD store that just opened beside the new coffee house on Lake Wheeler Road in that rundown brownish looking building between the Weld development and Dix Park. Guess if the kids drive you too bonkers you can go take the edge off. LOL

THCa, which is not “synthetic” - it’s essentially the same thing, just legal via Farm Bill loophole.

Yup. It’s not technically THC. However, when you burn it, it becomes THC through a process called decarboxylation. I have no idea if you can get arrested for burning THCA, since it technically becomes THC then. But, it’s legal to own and buy.

devil’s (lettuce) advocate:

is it? how many coffee shops are downtown?
ok, now how many head shops? how many strictly hemp-driven?

how many pharmacies?

did this area really need a luxury stationery store?
will a dispensary bring a net increase in foot traffic?

the answer to the last question is almost certainly yes. but i think all these questions are valid topics to consider.
