Well it will clearly enhance the current standard condition of the block.

Don’t know the details but Ruby Deluxe bar on Salisbury St. closed this weekend.

Oh no! I loved the vibe of Ruby and was very LGBTQ+ friendly. Sorry to hear they closed up. Perhaps moving or have a new concept coming in after them. One can be hopeful.

They’re not moving, just closed. Mismanagement, was always hanging on by a thread.

I’ll miss their annual “Save our community bar” that happened right around tax time.

Every year, right on cue lmao

I’ve mostly heard sketchy things about the owner - he-said-she-said, but overwhelmingly negative accounts from multiple people - including that he regularly preys on his young female staff he hires, often dating them [that part is not he-said-she-said, just known lol] which is so insanely unprofessional.

He could have been the next football coach at Carolina!

probably won’t be a popular opinion to some here, but personally I’m glad for Ruby to have finally bitten the dust. From the infamous misbehavior and fleecing customers of the owner that other mention (just check Reddit: search Ruby Raleigh - he is ridiculous and the place is toxic) to the irony of management that famously want to “coexist” but who also printed out giant placard of rules with gems like “no republicans allowed”…what was next? no Jews? No straights? No Asians?). I’m not repub but I loved tweaking the bartenders the times I was there by telling them I was as soon as they served my drink. Morons.

Ruby had such a horrible location in a desert of street activity. It’s amazing to me it lasted thru Covid.

As far as alternative nightlife, looks like the Legends 2.0 bar is taking longer to open than planned. They wanted to be open for Pride next month at their Cabarrus Street new location, but their insta says one last Pride event will happen next month at the Hargett street location. As a gay myself, I do look forward to what is supposed to be a much nicer and bigger Legends. Where you can be whoever you want, without the drama of Ruby Deluxe.

Yeah while I said the discourse around Tim (the owner) is “he-said-she-said” … there’s A LOT of he-said-she-said so I just gotta take it at face value and accept that he’s a scumbag lmao

I hadn’t heard anything really at all about Ruby and then the floodgates open about how toxic and poorly run it’s been. Yeah, we don’t need that!

I mean, I only went there a few times and was not a regular either. No disagreement from me on those points. I could tell it wasn’t managed right, though I disagree about the bartenders. (The ones I met were cool.)
I think the surprise to me, is it pretty shortly after Green Monkey closed and so for that community, it’s significant to lose two in a three month period. But it could help the remaining places stay strong longer if less competition----we’ll see in coming months. (A huge chunk of Green Monkey’s regulars are already frequenting Libations, helping them stay more active from what I’ve seen.)

Simons Says Dip This added a sign, which should help with traffic.

I hate their name and I want to guerilla improve that sign by removing the second S

What’s worse is that purchases shows up on your credit card bill under the parent company Simons Says Spread This, which is just gross. And grammatically incorrect.
