General Retail/Restaurant News

This may have been mentioned before but I went to urban oak rooftop for the first time last week. Great spot but kinda funny you’ve got inmates watching you out their window the entire time.

Yeah, we saw that happening the other night as well. It’s a really nice space, but the inmate gawking is a tiny bit unsettling.

I mean if Simon said, I’d have to comply. But not Simons

That was my favorite part. I kept waving. No one waved back. Rude. I’m glad they’re in jail!

Somehow this location at Moore Square I can see them doing very well

They’re apparently opening on May 19.

Someone may have already posted this, but saw while walking around downtown yesterday that the door of the Young Hearts building now shows “The Shul”. Which upon some research online, I found is a Jewish Center.

I haven’t seen anything online about the building being sold (which I believe was the plan from the Trophy team), so wonder if this is a way for them to bring some rent $ in until the building sells.

The upstairs space/rooftop area is an event space still - I believe now owned by the folks from Nest Raleigh.

Dug into this a little – I always assumed the -s on Simons was plural since the place is owned by a married couple. But the owner’s last name is actually “Simons”. Apparently the genitival excrescent -s is a patronymic suffix (like -ovich in Russian or -ez in Spanish), meaning son of Simon. Contemporary Anglo-Saxon surnames have mostly dropped the -s, but there’s still a few holdouts, like Adams.

Jaggers (subsidiary of Texas Roadhouse) is looking at old Mami’s site at 6711 Glenwood that had fire the first weekend it opened. Wish they would just open Texas Roadhouse!!

Renovations have begun in earnest at Ridgewood. This will be a nice improvement for West Raleigh in addition to the museum upgrades, the pedestrian bridge, finishing the 440/Wade Ave construction.

Has there ever been momentum for an overhaul of Wade Ave headed into downtown? I’ve never met anyone who didn’t hate that road

Me, nice to meet you. It’s awesome, especially late at night when no one’s around. The section near Daniel’s street can get kinda hairy with the blind turn, but the elevation changes and turns are a lot of fun.

No and there probably never will be. I want the highway to continue to Capital but apparently no one else does.

Roller Coaster Road, I love driving it, esp as you say when its empty and you catch all the lights.
