Also the BBQ place by the Fairweather has more progress on their smokehouse. I forget which thread this goes in…

Had to look up The Merchant. This is the first I’d heard of it.

That most recent Wire Service post looks like a bank wants to replace the gas station across from the Rialto at Five Points.

While I know that gas stations are a necessary evil, it will be good to see more development there that isn’t about fueling cars. One down, two to go!
If we have to have gas stations downtown, why can’t their model be flipped with the market at the sidewalk, and their pumps behind the market? Why do the pumps need to be front and center? I’d think that the reinvention of the station for a more urban environment could actually increase foot traffic to the store if the model was flipped. Imagine sidewalk tables to eat fresh made deli sandwiches or other “gas station fare” along the sidewalk, then the store, then pumps behind it.

That’s Corchiani’s Marathon station. While I do not lament losing another gas station in 5 points where I live, I could see something anything more exciting than a bank branch.

Who uses a branch anymore anyway? There are so many better banking options today than using these dinosaurs like bank of america, etc.

Unless it was a Capital One Cafe! That would be cool to have at Five Points.

Agreed :100:. Was hoping for a few more stories than a one story bank. Form & Function across the street did an excellent job converting that old retail space. And you’re right, bank branches are still used, but nowhere near how they used to be and only going to decrease further.

One of those two hasn’t pumped gas in some time so I imagine the USTs need replaced anyway.

State of Beer says they’re having a soft opening on Thursday in their expanded space. No more kitchen space tho.

Does this mean they won’t serve food any more or no Additional kitchen space?

No additional kitchen space. The kitchen guys were not thrilled but are resigned to it. They wanted to make sure the quality will stay up while they expand seating.

Well, I guess we now know what’s bringing in the profits. Hint, it ain’t the food.

The wine according to my friend at Wicked Weed.

True, but they do sneakily have some of the best sandwiches in town. This might’ve inspired me for lunch today. Or $.25 hot dogs at the PR.

The pimento cheese. Mmm.

Seriously, 25 cents hot dogs?

It’s their anniversary party today, so throwback prices. I still don’t want to eat hot dogs or drink Budweiser tho… LOL
