The Flying Mayan is open today and it’s Taco Tuesday

Anyone have any insight on what’s up with the 612 & 616 Glenwood Ave sites? I know a few years back there were site plans for them both to be redeveloped into new bars.

https://dtraleigh.com/2018/05/plans-submitted-for-bar-renovation-at-612-glenwood/

Jose and Sons appears to be closed for good. :sob: They had been doing takeout, so this is new. I’m hoping their future plans are positive and keep that space. I live super close, and this is one of our go-tos.

They are reopening somewhere else. But not downtown. Current landlord wasn’t very accommodating. More later.

I figured it wouldn’t take long for the news to pick up on this story and for someone to step down. Especially since they called out one publication specifically.

It’s going to be rough for downtown for a little bit until new places take over. I was just at Manhattan Cafe and I was the only person there ordering food at 11:30. Normally the place would be packed.

I’m still mulling over my plans myself.

Jeez! That’s pretty crazy! I have a lot of thoughts that probably aren’t relevant to share on here being that this is a downtown Raleigh forum. I’ll just say that definitely sucks for the future of those 2 restaurants and the planned new one in the Dillon. (Not to minimize or distract from what these various people have been through.)

This will ripple throughout the Raleigh restaurant scene in many different ways.
For those who spoke out, much respect and love to you for sharing and bearing your truth.
For the business, hopefully they will stand up for those who spoke up, turn inward and assess their mistakes, and find a path forward embracing accountability as they proceed.
I’ve encountered many truly wonderful folks in both of those establishments over the years and I’m saddened to hear of this untold story hiding in the darkness in places that brought forth light…
I hope after reflection and response, the remaining partners weather this storm to come out the other side with efforts focused on creating safe spaces in the trenches of their business that allow the community of good folks who work there and embody so much creativity to continue to shine.

WE’RE BACK!
It has been an interesting three months. It hasn’t been without its hardships and we need to thank all of you amazing folks who supported us throughout the lockdown, whether that was through Curbside Pickup orders, gift card purchases, or just calling to check in on us. Your love provided us the strength and confidence we needed to keep going.

We are proud to announce our grand reopening on Thursday, June 11th at 7:00 am.

You read that right! In addition to the Brunch and Dinner you know and love, Plates is now Glenwood South’s neighborhood specialty coffee shop! We will be serving Espresso, Lattes, Cappuccinos, Pour Overs, Hot Tea, and more alongside Chef David Mitchell’s new grab 'n go Breakfast Menu .

Visit us at plateskitchen.com to check out this and the rest of Chef David’s new summer menus.

New Hours of Operation (modified/temp):

They go on to say:

We recognize that everyone is still on high-alert because of COVID-19 and we want to take this opportunity to assure you that Plates Neighborhood Kitchen ownership and management are fully committed to the happiness and safety of our team and guests. We are strictly adhering to the new social distancing requirements for seating capacity, making sure our staff members are wearing masks at all times, and sanitizing all tableware, surfaces and common areas even more frequently than recommended. Plates Neighborhood Kitchen has always taken pride in exceeding these recommendations, and we want to assure you that we are taking every precaution to keep each other safe.

In addition to our sanitation measures, every Plates team member has passed the Count On Me NC safety certification test developed by the NCDHHS in conjunction with Phase 2 of the Governor’s reopening plan. Wellness checks are performed at the beginning of each shift and any team member who is not feeling well is not permitted to work in any capacity and will not be at the restaurant at any time. We will do everything in our power to make sure our employees are compensated for any time missed due to illness during the duration of this pandemic.

We understand that this is a time of uncertainty, but want to assure you that Plates Neighborhood Kitchen is a safe place where you can come and enjoy time with friends, co-workers, and family.

If you are uncomfortable with being out in public during this time, know that our popular Curbside Pickup service will remain a key part of the Plates Kitchen experience! You can place and pay for your order online at plateskitchen.com on your mobile device or computer, all from the comfort of your own home.

Stay tuned over the coming weeks as we roll out some other exciting ideas that we have been working on during the lockdown, including Inside-the-Beltline delivery ! If you have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to reach out to us at info@plateskitchen.com.

We can’t wait to welcome everyone back into our home! We missed y’all.

I’ve been vocal on this forum about how much I like The Rockford. Can’t wait to see your changes. What are your daily drink specials these days?

At first I read “new wife”. Lol. Reminds me of when my dad introduced my mom as his “first wife” at parties as a joke

I think “current wife” is more appropriate.

Some interesting things this week in WRAL Foodie News:
Looks like Calavera is still alive but under another name Calavera Taqueria(new ownership that will focus on tacos and barbacoa) and will stay at their location on Morgan St.

It appears the city is allowing two events to take place the first two weekends of August on Fayetteville St.
August 8th for the Raleigh International Food festival and August 14-15th for Brewgaloo.
