WOW!!! Look at that Franchise TOWER going up in downtown Raleigh. #LoweredExpectations SMDH
He’s been selling things like hummus and aioli at the Midtown Farmer’s Market for the last couple weekends. It made me sad to see it.
He moved here, so hopefully he’ll resurrect somewhere else in town. It probably wouldn’t hurt if everybody reached out via whatever social media forum and gave him some words of encouragement.

I just did on Instagram. Good idea!
Sorry if this has been mentioned already. Anyone know anything about a record store/bar opening up at seaboard?
No but I’d be way into that if it’s true. Even better if it’s a COFFEE bar/record store.
Had dinner at Oro tonight to celebrate a half birthday (@GucciLittlePenguin) and they’re finally back from the damage from the riots and the pandemic. So happy to support a local, black owned business… Also one of my favorite restaurants downtown. They have some new menu items, with more working their way onto it. I highly recommend taking a trip over there, if you can. All of our favorite places need support right now. If there’s a second shutdown, it may finish off some of these places.
So glad you posted this. I have a GC that I need to use. A small one. Enough to pay the tax. It’s on the agenda for this weekend now.
We had take out coffee and breakfast at Plates this morning and it’s excellent. They’re opening at 7am Wed-Fri for now.
I wonder what’s going on with all of the AC restaurants. All of them all boarded up with no attempt at takeout or limited seating. Curious if she just does not want to deal with it and has the capital to ride it out , or could be overextended and on the brink.
I feel like it’s the former, and honestly it’s kind of annoying.
I guess they might be working on the Beasley’s/Chuck’s expansion behind the scenes? Still doesn’t explain Poole’s and Pooleside, D&T, etc. I agree it’s frustrating but who knows what could be going on…
Can’t speak to the boarded up storefronts but Poole’s and Pooles’ide are doing to go and I think there was construction going on to merge Beasley’s into Chuck’s under the new spacing paradigm. I’ve heard that the limited capacity math ‘doesn’t make sense for them’, so this is the path until they get to a point where a return closer to the original business / capacity model is an option. Garland and Centro seem to be following the same program…
Can’t imagine the size of the loan for Poolside… I’m sure many are happy that she made such a sizable investment in Raleigh but in hindsight I wonder if pumping that much money into a pizza place was the best idea. Oakwood Pizza Box obviously took a much more humble approach and they keep cranking out pizzas. Nice line of people and cars every time I walk through there. Seems like evidence enough that Pooleside didn’t need to be super high end in order to work. I wonder if AC group didn’t kind of build themselves a house of cards. At that scale, I would imagine things are off the charts great when everything is rolling along but I worry they might be off the charts bad when the bottom falls out. Will be interesting to watch…
Yup, mirrors my opinion. Hope she reopens, has been good for downtown, but everyone here knows my dislike for unnecessary boarded up businesses…
Oakwood pizza box has won my Raleigh pizza battle.
Beasleys just announced on Instagram open for takeout. Interesting…
Pooles has been doing pickup so they’re open. They just don’t have outside seating and seems they don’t want to offer up inside seating.
I’ve heard good things about Club House. AC seems to be innovating right now from my perspective. Hard to form opinions if we only look at physical lines as online ordering probably still has the majority of traffic/sales.
Rather expensive. Guess I don’t mind paying for the experience at the restaurants, but I prefer cheap, simple food to go.
