Wow…
Many good memories at imurj. I helped start the weekly open jam on Tuesdays there back in 2018. We desperately need live music venues, and that place had been properly outfitted to be one. Very curious what the longer-term fate of this space is, along with the Maywood venue.
Oh man, that is too bad about Imurj. I really liked that spot. That’s where I heard my last live music before the pandemic. I agree with @evan.j.bost that we need more live music spots in Raleigh.
Hopefully, Whiskey kitchen live music and whiskey sipping.
Damaged in Raleigh protests, CVS reopens to happy customers. ‘I’m dang near doing flips.’ https://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/article249038015.html
Looks like Burial Beer’s expansion will be complete March 13th. called “The Exhibit Bottle Shop”.
I’m also hearing rumors there might be a shake-up of vendors inside Transfer Food Hall itself.
Nothing concrete I can report on officially but a couple might not be there in the near future.
If it wasn’t already reported on here, the bar inside Transfer used to be officially operated by (and beer/liquor license) of Locals Seafood. The Queens that own Transfer apparently took it over and now operate it from what the bartender said when I was there last (several weeks ago).
Sam Jones was good but I recently visited Parker’s BBQ in Wilson and that was incredible. Hoping they also make it to Raleigh as well.
I’m wondering if anyone here has been to Layered Croissanterie on N. West St?
The reason I ask, over the weekend David Meeker posted a picture on Sunday of their curbside pick up line over 20 cars long. They must be doing something right.
Yeah I’ve been going since they opened. Really good stuff. Never seen a line like that, though. Maybe Saturday at like noon by the time I’m up isn’t peak time?
Valentines Day…
Layered is good.
There were morning lines at Boulted, Union Special, etc.
Sunday was an especially ‘good’ day for the curbside line at Layered.
Even though it’s on the expensive side, It’s one of my favorite places in Raleigh. And good Croissants are pretty hard to find.
Surprisingly, in case anyone is curious, Lidl actually has some decent ones for pretty cheap.
When we lived at the West we’d go regularly. Really good stuff IMO. Glad to see they’re doing well. I’d also love to see that section of West Street flourish. I’d also love to see a tap room overlooking the future park and Capital on the hill.
Haven’t been yet but I will. It’s a good sign that they actually use the term “pain au chocolat” instead of “chocolate croissant”.
Good tip. Croissants are probably my favorite baked good. I’m a fan of Boulted right now. The more, the merrier though!
When Devereux Meadows park is realized, I think that the West St. corridor north of Peace (or is that Peas?) has a lot of potential.
I love Layered Croissanterie! I’ve seen this long car line before, both times it was raining. I bet you go on a sunny day, there will be less cars but more people waiting in line.
But that said, they move the lines pretty quickly especially if people order ahead of time.

We excel in speakeasies for sure. I used to take my couchsurfers on a drunken tour of downtown Raleigh visiting most of the speakeasies when possible. We still need one of those hidden behind a laundromat types though.
