I went to one of those in Montreal and it was awesome! Lol

I was close to opening an ice cream shop speakeasy downtown. Put the idea on hold, but may come back to it someday.

I wholly support your vision! I visited a pie shop speakeasy in Denver with @GucciLittlePig a couple of years ago, and it was so neat! I hope you are able to come back around to your idea and make it a reality.

Unfortunately I fell short on getting enough investment to get the project going. Now I’m getting into some vacation rentals. My hope is in 2-3 years these rentals are successful and I can revisit a project like the ice cream shop speakeasy on my own money. Really want to contribute something fun and unique to the downtown Raleigh community, it’s been a dream of mine the last couple of years.

Well, you are free to invite anyone here. The idea sounds fantastic. As someone who gets ice cream even in the winter, I know I’ll be there regularly.

Presuming that we can’t eat ice cream in the Winter is like saying that can’t drink coffee in the Summer. Am I right? Count me in too!

I’ll be looking forward to this too, if/when it happens!

Friendly advice: you may have a solid amount of competition from someone in Durham with the same idea.

Hey, if it’s a cow-to-cone type project I would definitely support. A quality food scene starts at the source.

Isn’t that sort of what NC State does with Howling Cow Ice Cream already?

I hope all high quality ice cream can track their sources down to the udder.

My concept was going to be a fun playful ice cream shop in the front, nice and family friendly. In the back (aka the freezer room) would be a speak easy, with fully stocked bar, and our signature design your own boozy milkshakes.

Commercial ice cream machines are crazy expensive and something I didn’t want to operate. So I was looking into sourcing my ice cream through Maple View Farms (best ice cream ever in my opinion and it’s local to NC). I was in discussions with them to create some unique local flavor ice creams.

Me talking about this again and hearing everyone’s like for the idea gets me excited. Wish this was something I could execute today. But give me 2-3 years and I truly think I’ll be bringing something fun to DTR.

This is really cool, thanks for sharing! Somehow I failed to find out about this during my research phase.

What flavor ice cream is the secret key to the “freezer”?

I just thought of this one and no sure if it would work but sweet potato ice cream with brown sugar swirls.

There’s a speakeasy taco bar in Miami Beach, that could be a good example for you.

Actually got the inspiration going there, funny you share that haha! There’s also an ice cream shop with a hidden club in the Wynwood District in Miami.

That sounds really good.

As for the secret password, I never made it that far :joy:
