One of my favorite proposals I have see in Raleigh. Not holding out much hope for it, but it would be so awesome.
I feel nothing over Snoopy’s closing. That is an underutilized parcel and I am glad to see it getting redeveloped.
I would probably feel at least a small pang of loss were Char-Grill to get redeveloped, but I probably wouldn’t oppose it in the end though, either.
I feel nothing over Snoopy’s as well. On the other hand, if Char-Grill ever leaves downtown, I’m rioting.
I too have never been impressed with Snoopy’s so I can’t be to sad about this. I’m hoping since the property next door has stalled for years that it’ll be combined.
The articles mention that no one is losing their jobs, and Snoopy’s, the business, isn’t closing so it’s a pretty ideal scenario here. Need to hit the Roast Grill some time soon maybe but I’ve loved The Cardinal.
not exactly going to miss this place. Out with the old…in with the new Snoopy's closes one Raleigh location :: Out and About at WRAL.com
Snoopy’s was a gas station/automotive service shop before it became a hot dog place.
Also the N&O article mentioned they’re looking for a new downtown Raleigh location with drive-thru service. That’s going to be a tough find for sure.
The original Snoopy’s on Wake Forest Road was also an old service station. I guess the self service drive through pumps made this model obsolete for gas sales.
Char-Grill, and that particular location is part of Raleigh’s history and culture. I would have immense sorrow over losing it. While Snoopy’s is also part of they city’s (more recent) history and culture, the location at Glenwood/Hillsborough is not as significant or compelling.
My fantasy for the future of that Char-Grill is for it to not need its parking as the area around it creates more of a walk-shed customer base, and for that lot to become more of an extension of the plaza experience that’s been created across the street between 1Glenwood and 2Hillsborough.
As for Char-Grill’s driving customers, there are other locations in the city that support those customers.
I didn’t think this area would have been redeveloped so fast and so vast, but it is just wonderful that this area has been activated so well. “Baby want more, baby want more”
yeah, it’s open. Stopped in Saturday
owner messages back to Facebook questions pretty fast
Ok awesome! I didn’t want to bother them if they felt they needed to be closed for a bit still. But I’ll be sure to visit again soon!
really most of the places in Glenwood south/hillsborough look like they were gas stations. Time for the makeover to begin
UGH!!! They want a new location with a drive-thru downtown? All that means is a more wasted land to stack up a queue of cars. I agree that it will be difficult to find such a spot for a business friendly cost. I’d rather they create an urban model format and find a smaller walk up location.
This is just a mailing list for pick up though; there’s no physical location. (Also, I’m salty I’ve been on the list for almost two years now and have yet to successfully snag a pint before they sell out.)
I figured it’s still close enough in spirit (homemade underground ice cream that doesn’t demand an ice cream machine), even if the business model is different.
It also helps to set up your email inbox to specifically flag and alert you to new emails I’ve made successful pickups several times both before and during this pandemic. I’ve yet to find ice cream with mix-ins that are anywhere as close as good as theirs -both in the Triangle, and in general.
I think this is the right place for this and I’m sure I’ve thrown this out there before, but if you’re looking to get out as things open back up (safely), the program Offline has is really quite worth the monthly fee. My referral is below. If you have friends that have Offline, ask them for their referral.
An example is this month I’m getting $20 credit for the new Virgil’s, $15 credit for Hightop Burger (Five Points) and several other offers for staycations for instance. They also have a sneak peek opportunity with the new Mummy exhibit at NCMA. All around great stuff each month and you get much more than your money back. Karla and I actually both have subscriptions so we double the credits we get.
yeahhh I put them on my VIP list but for some reason I still get notifications a couple hours late. Apparently the ice cream only lasts a few minutes There’s probably something wrong with my settings cause I tried to set it up so that I don’t get push notifications for everything! One of these days…
On a related note, it’s also been a low key dream of mine to open up a South Asian fusion ice cream store one day (think flavors like kashmiri chai, ovaltine, cardamom mango, carrot halwa). The Triangle could use some more ultra-niche concepts!
When does that Mummy exhibit open? I remember hearing about this a year or more ago. Totally forgot about it. Definitely will want to check that out.
I believe this weekend. The Offline sneak peek is tomorrow evening. It could be as early as Thursday for the general public.
Alamo Drafthouse is declaring Chapter 11 bankruptcy (reorganization) and closing down a few underperforming theaters.
Anyone got a feel for how the Raleigh location has fared through this mess?
